Broadside shot at roughly 175 yds. He tipped over backwards, kicked up a bunch of dirt, tried to get up a couple times and finally righted himself and stumbled off with a front leg hanging. Hopefully he’s laying just off the road. Being a bow hunter my instincts are just telling me to sit for awhile. If he’s down, he ain’t going anywhere.
Sort of bummed he ain’t laying dead in the road. Because of the long sendero here, I am Shooting gun I feel comfortable reaching out a ways. REM 7mm-08 with a flat shooting load. Hopefully will have LDPs shortly.

Sounds like you hit him hard. Waiting a bit wont hurt anything, although dont go too long. Yotes can find them dead deer quick!Comment

I'll second what bigred said above, out there if you have to talk yourself into shooting a deer he isn't the one. Especially on the gun hunt in december out there. The buck of a lifetime could walk out any minute especially with the cool weather. Out there you know its the right deer when the first thought through your head is "holy***X...."Comment
