    Traditional FSC Week 9

How about a windage and elevation target about now, shaped like a T....

Target is about 6 inches high, with the top bar 5.5 inches wide and 1.5 inch thick bars. Center on a piece of copy paper and put a dot at the top middle as shown below.

Shoot the first 4 shots of a day at the dot from 14 yards (7 for kiddos), any stance. Count the number of hits anywhere on the "T" (touching line counts). Measure the one closest arrow from shaft to center of dot as a tie-breaker. Up to four days' tries allowed.

    Good luck and have fun!

Draw your own target or print mine:

4 on the paper. Only one in the T.

    Better luck tomorrow!

First three shots went left to right in order, with final one on vertical bar.

Good target and good shooting T^2.

Day 1: 1/16” on first shot from the Duct Tape Turbulated with 3 on T.
(Tape measure wasnt cooperating with the small measure)

A turbulator breaks the laminar air flow along a shaft. Dr Ashby brought it up in his lectures on arrow construction...you can find the videos on GrizzlyStiks website. Essentially using a small raised band around the shaft in front of fletchings creates more turbulence and enhances the drag of the fletchings to aid in accuracy and stability. Dr Ashby said to use 1/8” pinstriping tape. Ive run my 1/8” duct tape turbulator through two critters so far.

Not many people consider or talk about that arrow wraps essentially do the same thing as an intentional turbulator...unwittingly create more turbulence and subsequently drag to aid in accuracy and arrow stability (...to be redundant).

                      Thanks Yall.

Day 2: 2 strikes and measure not better than 1/16”
I was disappointed the turbulated didnt make a strike.

                        Good shooting GP!

                          Y'all are shooting nicely!

Briar: Hadn't thought of just cutting a thin piece of duct tape to use as a turbulator. I might try that. Heck, my whole hunting set up is based pretty much on principles that Dr. Ashby outlined. (600 grain arrow, with close to 30% FOC, amounting to about 9 GPI)

9gpi, or 9gpp??? I see no way possible to build a 9gpp arrow with 30% FOC.

                            Please list your arrow specs.

Thanks for the catch, Bisch. Was intending to say it's about 9 gpp (600 grain arrow in 67-lb bow). Mis-stated FOC; not nearly 30%, rather, it's actually 26.2%.

Just checked, using AMO Method 1: 29" length from nockpoint to back of fieldpoint; with 22.1" from nockpoint to balance point.
So, it's below the 30% threshold defining Ultra-Extreme FOC, but well up in the range of Extreme FOC of 19-29%. Hits pretty hard, still flies fast.

BTW, nice to see you at Cowtown TBOT.
