They can damage their antlers in velvet and some do, but it could be caused by going under fences, on a tree branch, etc..... It doesn't happen often because they are really careful with those tender appendages. A lot of times people will see one side of the antlers curving down and call it a cull and most likely they bent the antler without breaking i while it was growing.

I haven't seen any issues with damage from CS feeders of all shapes and sizes, in several different areas of the state.
5 or 6 years ago I found the only damaged velvet antler I've found, and it was hung up in a hay net we had full of alfalfa for axis. The nets got replaced with troughs shortly after that
