They paid me to do this!!

I posted this in the college football thread but figured it was worthy of its own thread. I was looking to buy tickets to the Alabama vs Longhorns game but the cheapest I could find were $300 in the nosebleed section.

I was thinking by the time I buy me and my wife tickets, uber, beer, food etc. it would be a $1000 day.

I got a work page that they were hiring for extra duty to work the game. I did this before when I worked at APD, and it was directing traffic. No thanks!

I emailed the Sgt. and he told me it was roving security inside the stadium, and I would be able to catch the game. Signe me up!

I don't know how we lucked into this but when we got to show up, they assigned us a security detail on Fox Broadcasting. My assignment was escorting Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart through the stadium all day.

It was a super cool day of work, and I would have paid them to do it!

Both of those guys were super cool and down to earth. I was surprised at Reggie Bush's stature. He's small, like my size! Of course he looks like he was carved out of stone but he's not a big guy at all.

We went down on the field for a while and I got to see Vince Young, didn't interact with him. He was busy cheering (coaching) the Longhorns. They didn't want to stay on the sideline long, decided it was too hot! I agreed, it was sweltering.

Reggie and Matt got heckled a bit, mostly everyone was asking Reggie if he was there to give Vince Young his Heisman trophy?

It was an awesome game, and the crowd was for sure a factor. The stadium was rocking! I am an Alabama and a UT fan; I was pulling for Bama in this one. I was in that corner alone. I was very impressed with UT, and they could have easily won that game. They missed out on a few opportunities that would have given it to them. Hate to see the injuries.

This was probably the best day of work I've had in 15 years in LE. Roll Tide and Hook’em Horns!

Sometimes that is a rare benefit of a few LEOs.

I have escorted or back stage security for G W Bush (as governor), James Earl Jones, Clyde “The Glide” Drexler, Shaquille O’Neal, Frankie Avalon, Larry Gatlin, Daryl “Moose” Johnston, Cal Ripkin Jr, Wade Phillips, Rick Perry, Jimmy Johnson, JJ Watt and many others.
