Don’t need an expensive EDC knife - prove me wrong

Why get a premium EDC knife (Benchmade, Zero Tolerance, etc)? Opening mail, cutting up food, cleaning under your nails, punching a new hole in your belt, sharpening a pencil or popping off a staple?

I use a knife hard and would be afraid to damage or lose a premium one. I get it if you just like nice things, but straight talk premium owners- do you use it for anything where it makes a difference over a good ol mid range kershaw or case?

I have a few nice knives. I carry the same $15 Gerber I have for 15 years

I’m in the same boat as you. I like and appreciate the nice knives but I carry a cheapo folding buck knife most days just because I won’t be mad at myself if I ruin it. It holds an edge decent enough for the day to day stuff.

For real work I ain't using no high dollar knife. I'd end up breaking the tip off of it or losing it. That's just how my luck goes. Ozark Trail or some cheapo works just as good for cutting random stuff. I have a few really nice ones that were given to me as gifts. I don't wanna risk breaking one or having someone steal it or anything.

I have some nice knifes but I carry a Case trapper everyday in my pocket. I refuse to use it as a screwdriver or for prying on something. I have buddies that will use their knife for anything but I can’t do that for some reason.

What do you call high end.
I usually have a BM bugout or grip in my pocket but I do not consider them high end. I might carry something different when hunting or camping but then again I might not.

When I was younger I always carried the German eye brand knives. They were considered budget knives back then but I got a lot of service from them.

Kinda like sunglasses. They last me a LOT longer. I’ve had an Emerson EDC-1 multitasker for a long time. It’s a hard use knife that’ll take abuse. Personal preference I guess.

I carry a nice Benchmade as my EDC. I think they used to run around $250-$300. These days, the knife I carry is worth much much more due to being discontinued. I keep it pretty sharp and have used it on a deer at least once. I don’t wear a watch or jewelry, so my knife is kinda like jewelry? The OPs not wrong, I just choose to “wear” a nice knife. If I used it for actual work, I’d carry something less expensive.

Was this something that really needs defending? I’ve never felt pressured to carry an expensive knife.

No one has ever told me my knife wasn’t worthy of carrying.

I like my 20 dollar buck slim just about as much as my Benchmade bugout. I use both pretty much the same way. I don't use my knife as a screwdriver either way if I can help it.

I carry a $55 Boker AK74 knife. I have carried it 7 yrs now and finally had to replace it the other day. The pocket clip on it broke off. Got another clip on the way but will probably retire the knife and keep carrying its replacement. The replacement is another Boker just like it. I count them has a midrange priced knife. I have handmade knives that cost $1k to a bunch in the $150-300 range. The Boker is still in my pocket or clipped to my waist band daily no matter what.

I carry a sodbuster or a small stockman (not sure the actual name). I use my knives for anything and everything. Couldn't imagine having an EDC over $50ish, with the abuse I put them thru. Most of the high dollar EDC's I see are worn on a belt sheath. Seems more like a part of the "outfit" than a tool.

I carry a Kyle Lunneborg bull cutter on a daily basis. Not super high end but as I have gotten older, I have to grown to appreciate a beautiful and well made knife.

I wouldn't know if a premium knife works a lot better because I lose things so fast

I try to keep a decent knife in a drawer just for cleaning deer but end up using whatever a lot of the time.
