Is it legal to carry a handgun is Sam Houston national forest when hiking or camping. I left it at the house today and stuck to the larger roads, but do like to go down the less traveled trails. I have 3 kiddos under the age of 5yo and would feel better if I could but want to stay legal. I do not have a chl if that matters. Thanks ahead of time.

Can I carry a loaded handgun while just walking out
in the woods scouting for personal protection?
Yes, as long as it is not concealed. If you have a CHL,
then you can carry a concealed weapon.
Cannot be loaded in the car or camp.Last edited by Terran28; 07-04-2021, 01:38 PM.

Most likely not. US Forestry Service is Federal lands. They make their own rules. If they want to fallow state guidelines, they will. If not, they won't. Generally, they try to get along with States. And their rules are usually more stringent than state. Just like the "doe rules" out there during hunting season. And Fire rules when camping.
