          Just fry some bacon in it, and then deep fry something of your choice in it. Then repeat

          I have a 80ish year old cast iron skillet that this happened to a few years back when I was trying to clean it up a bit, i made bacon and then deep fried some chicken and all was well.

                Also, do NOT use paper towels to wipe down/apply anything to a cast iron skillet/Dutch oven, etc... It will leave little paper fibers that can really mess up a seasoned or clean pan. When wiping grease into a skillet, use your hands. It don't take much...
                Same goes for a griddle that is steel and not cast iron...
