That’s what I told her, I told her that with the market in our area we could make a killing on our house and also our prop taxes around here have gone thru the roof. I’m so over big houses in city limits.

Just catching up on your thread Boomer, been following some of you push county hunters for several years. decided to join this year. Congrats on new place, its a never ending process. very fun to watch deer you know grow from year to year. The protein year around route is the ticket, you will soon be feeding more deer than you want to pay for. Good luck. Expecting velvet pics to start coming in

I feel like this has been one of the busier summers in a while for the Hunt clan. I guess thatís what you get when your kids start to grow up some. Speaking of kids, my two youngest suddenly got interested and began paying more attention when I pulled the cards from the cam covering the protein feeder.

This little fella had to learn his lesson the hard way.

And finally, Iím not sure what to make of this buckís left main beam.

The next trip up will be to disc and plant!

Was able to get a big boy set hung on Saturday. The Millennium found a home! Thanks to Darton for assisting. A skilled second set of hands makes for quick work.

This will be a mineral site and I will hand corn a couple of lanes.

I agree! Season will be upon us before we know it.

Looking through my pics a little closer and I see this guy hanging out away from the feeder.

Heís got some good tine length already. Looking at the date, heís got about a month left to put on more inches. I look forward to seeing how he finishes out.

Good group of bucks coming in for sure! Aaannddd, you've still got that stud of 10 lurking out there close by. I'm ready to see what he looks like this year, in the back of your truck, because your daughter just blasted him! Also, I don't know who that guy was, standing down by your utv, but he looks a little suspect to me.

I am wondering if this split G2 buck is the same as I had on camera last year.

This year:

Last year:

The buck from this year looks like it will have a narrower spread but it is still early. I look forward to seeing what he turns into in early September! This is what makes land ownership rewarding. I donít have to worry about lease mates not getting on board with our management plan. My neighbors hunt but wonít make a dent in the mature buck population.

The kids and I are really enjoying getting to know the resident herd! More to come.

Got up to the Hilltop this past weekend to get the food plots mowed and sprayed. A little tractor time is good for the soul!

Met the firewood and propane delivery guys so we are all set for heat at the place for the next few seasons.

Thinking about converting this silo into a unique blind. I have a great spot in mind for her but this will be one of next seasonís project.

It has a 7í diameter and is 10.5í tall at the point where the side wall meet the roof. Plenty of room and plenty tall for a Hilltop shooting shack.

Have a few pics of contestants in the ďMollyís First BuckĒ contest:

Looking forward to getting her on one of these guys.

Was stacking firewood and ran across a P&Y praying mantis.

Will be back up to disc and plant after the dove opener. More to come.

Many thanks to Shake Ní Bake for doing the Euro on Willís first buck! Turned out great. I really enjoyed lunch!

This next season Iím pretty sure no buck, big or small will be safe while Will is toting the .223 or crossbow but thatís how it is supposed to be at this stage.

Was able to have some alone time with Momma at the Hilltop this weekend. Drinking coffee on the porch in the morning while it rains and watching does who are have breakfast at the feeder is really nice by itself but it goes to the next level when itís your place.

Pulled cards while we were there.

Protein feeder is out so we are done with protein for this year. This was my first year to feed protein and I am thankful that I had the CoonHoods installed. If I fed through December they would have paid for themselves in this first year.

I will begin a blind building project this week with the goal of getting it in prior to the opener. Iíve assembled the materials over the last month or so.

Last season was our first and we had very few sets in place. This year weíve got three so far. The impending blind will be large enough for three of us so our 4th spot is likely to be popular.

Was able to address accommodations as well this weekend by getting the bunk beds I built last month put up.

Two more beds at the place opens the playbook for the kids bringing friends to the Hilltop.

More to come.

They are done (or darn close to be done) putting on inches. We converted over and have started both corn feeders. They followed suit. Going to put out some trophy rock using a newly pioneered method where you wore it to a cedar stump thatís been cut off about chest high.

Agree, John. Thatís primarily why we bought when we did. Making memories starts now and donít have to wait until when they are grown.

Finally got some time to start a blind build. It is later than I want to be doing this but we wonít have a repeat of last fall. If you will remember, Molly froze her little rear-end off in the double stand just before Thanksgiving. Thatís her on my left with her coat over her head.

I told her then that weíd be much more comfortable this season so I have to make good on that.

This will be an 8í x 7í skinned with aircraft fiberglass panels and bow and rifle windows.

Been collecting materials for a while now.

Molly has been helping things along. With her cutting the studs I was running the nail gun.

We got most of the framing done today.

Reddog500 scored us a salvage RV door, which is perfect for this project.

The 4x4 elevator brackets came in last week. We will finish framing it and add the roof joists next.

Once final build out, inspection, and punch list is finished the occupancy load issued by the local authority having jurisdiction should have us rated at three persons.

The intent here is to have enough room for me and two kiddos in case one of the kids wants to bring a friend. Alternatively, thereís plenty of room for just me and Mom.

Got to the Hilltop this weekend and got our food plots in. Like last year we are going with winter wheat, ladino clover, and turnips for the main plot and the kill plot.

The little Moultrie ATV spreader did a heck of a job, again.

Got a set hung a few weeks ago in an area that I believe will produce as it is adjacent to a pasture on one side with thick timber everywhere else. I got some interest from a few deer this past year with mineral so I used the Darton designed, Trophy Rock on a cedar stump approach.

Here are s few pics of the guys that are frequenting our feeders.

Unless we have a wandering stud come through I plan on putting a doe in the freezer on my first sit.

Slow and steady may win the race but it sure makes for a long build....

Now that our rails and a shelf are installed with the carpet stretched, the interior is done.

After sanding all sides and the roof, three coats of paint should have her weatherproof.

There is framing for seven Deerview windows. This year we will have the one main 11.5Ēx36Ē window in front installed with one covered opening in front and back. Next year we will install more.

8í 4 x 4 posts and braces are painted and ready to go.

Picked up an essential piece of the puzzle this afternoon.

More to come.
