Default Painted buntings - 2021

Just returned from S. Llano River SP after a week there. About 3000 pics and I would bet 1/4 to 1/3 were of these birds.

Bill, thanks for posting these great pics. Nothing says Texas Hill Country more than the Painted Bunting!! At 53, I have had great experiences seeing these wonderful birds in Llano as a young man, then throughout the Frio canyon, and most recently on our place in eastern Menard County. Never understood why my dad was so excited to see them, I am starting to get it now.

I'm gonna be honest, I didn't even know you could find these in Texas! I guess I need to make a trip. Beautiful photos as always, Bill.

Thanks again, guys. They are pretty widely available in the hill country until around the end of Sept. We have a few here in Brazos Co.

I got a picture checking my deer feeder last year... 1st thought a parrot escaped... was unaware of them until I looked it up.

Don't think I've ever seen one of these, despite spending a lot of time in the Hill Country. Gorgeous photos, the first one is my favorite.

One of my favorites to see migrate through in the fall and spring. My grandparents had breeding pairs nest by their house every year in Central Texas, and we used to feed them when I was a kid. Thanks for sharing!
