If it fails at 1M revolutions, it won't take long.

    Oops, just seen 2nd page.

      6.5 round trips @ 70mph.

Blows just before reaching work on 7th trip.

My luck it will fail on the way to deer camp, on the evening of the first real cold front, pulling a trailer loaded with a tractor during rush hour in downtown Dallas.

Correct me if I didn’t see it. I see where you accounted for the idle both to and from, but I only see the 43 miles one way negating the “round trip” number accuracy. If that is the case then the correct answer would be <=Red?

If the trip is 43 miles one way, and you fail at 16.81 miles you are only 26.19 miles from home coming and 16.81 miles from home going. You wouldn’t continue your track to complete a round trip?

No way could I have gotten as far as you did but I like the problem. It makes you think. Hypothetically of course as only one person attempted to solve while the rest attempted to wrap their mind around 1,000,000 rpm’s

Except this guy…….he understood both the math and logistics of what would ultimately occur!!!

I meant to use 86 miles.

This was my 4th or 5th time trying to solve it. On the other attempts I used 86 miles...

                  Thank you

Again. Thank you for the challenge. I could not have gotten as far as you. I’m better at fixing other peoples problems just ask my wife.

No wait. She said STOP trying to fix other peoples problems.

                            None taken.

I didn't know that particular definition of the word. So I learned a new thing today

Makes it 6 round trips. Fails on the way to work on the 7th day 2.15 miles from work

                              43miles @ 70mph=36.852 minutes
                              2000rpm x 36.852=73704 revolutions
                              500rpm x 7 =3500 revolutions
                              73704+3500=77204 revolutions
                              1000000 ÷ 77204= 12.95 trips
12.95 = 6 round trips, dies 2.15 miles from work on the next trip.
