It’s a done deal. More money, longer term. It is unprecedented to extend a coach with so much term left, but this makes him the current second highest paid coach in college behind Saban. Now he hasn’t performed to earn that level of pay, yet, but I think A&M is getting out ahead of the changing landscape with the NIL. It’s one thing for an NFL player to command more money than a head coach. It’s quite another for a college player to do so. We’ll see if it pays off, but one could argue that they potentially saved money. If A&M has the season that’s being proposed by the pundits, it could have cost them more in the off-season.
