We Introduced oryx to the ranch 4 years ago and have been watching them run around the ranch without fear of being hunted until now. They are majestic animals and seem to have 15 guards on watch in every direction at all times. Very fun challenge to sneak up on them.
This year we put a few on the ranch quota that begins today.
Yesterday, I saw the herd before the new season started and watched this bull run wild chasing other bulls and corralling cows for over 30 minutes. He got in several fights and prevailed in each of them .
He was the herd boss over 36 other Oryx.
Although he was not the biggest bodied, he was definitely the toughest SOB out there.
After hunting for them all morning today, Including a long spot and stalk session, but came up with no oryx sightings.
So, this afternoon, when they came in to my pond, I was able to sneak into a good shooting range, watch them for a while and find Herd Boss again. after he finally cleared the herd on his rounds and stopped for a moment, I was able to get a heart shot with my 6.5 CM at 175 yds and put my first oryx on the ground
It was quite the effort to gut him and get him on the trailer, but well worth it.
Can’t wait to get the meat
