    Barrel Marking?

I have an action I re-barreled in a different caliber. I need to mark the caliber on the barrel. I have a set of steel stamps but that always seems to come out looking kind of crude. Any suggestions on how to get professional looking results without breaking the budget?

Did you cut the threads and chamber yourself? Best bet it to take it to gunsmith and have them laser engrave the caliber on it.

I would go the 'smith route. I have a friend that took his to the shop where he ordered kid's sports trophies (everyone gets one these days) and they did a good job and charged him $15-20.

Yes, I threaded and chambered the barrel. The people I have talked to that have Laser engraving are so booked with their own work they are not taking in any additional work. There was a shop in Austin that was doing Form 1 suppressors but they are booked.

Do you ever come through La Grange? I can either etch or engrave it if you do.

In La Grange quite frequently. We own property in Fayetteville. I will PM my phone number.

I have a couple .308’s that I built but never marked. No biggie for me, but eventually down the line will stump a grandkid or great grandkid.

A pretty cheap option is a Brother label maker that utilizes the stencil tapes. I bought a PT-P700 reconditioned from Brother for $60 and I use the STe-141 stencil tape. Use Brother software and print what ever you want. Tape it to barrel and mask around the stencil with tape. You can use a salt water mix or 1:30 mix of Muriatic acid. 12 volt battery charger (that has an option for start, or older model that will spark when you touch leads together) or build your own power supply. After you etch for depth with DC, you need AC to make it black. So that's where a DIY power supply is handy.
