Default R12

Does anyone have access to R12 Freon? Iím trying to revive the factory AC in my 65 vette. If the mechanic checks out the system and it holds vacuum, Iíd like to get it working and will need a little under 4 lbs of R12.

Thanks

I'm needing some for my 89' F150. I have a trade in the works that might land me some. I'll let you know if it pans out.

I'm trying to find something that doesn't have a trigger on it that will entice the guy into the trade.

Zero reason why a properly retrofitted R134A system can not be as cold as R12. Cheaper & Readily available. Why are you wanting R12?

The car is a 1965 original ac corvette. My understanding is 134a has different pressures and this can develop into seal leaks in the compressor. I’m trying to keep the car as original as possible.

Not sure. The system was not operational when I purchased the car. If it holds vacuum and the compressor functions we are going to recharge it.

The new systems may be better but remember when the 12 to 134 switch happened, I34 was not near as cold.

Yes. I remember and have done countless retrofitting over the years. If properly done you would never notice a difference. 134 just needs room to breath and expand. Proper cooling of condenser and life is good.

To the OP. Seeing you are getting a great deal on liquid gold. I would 110% make sure all seals, Owings, compressor, hoses are new or like new condition

Aint that the truth. Dont want that gold evaporating. Haha

And just be glad you can still use R12 or have the opportunity to retrofit to R134a and dont have to deal with the newest one.

The R1234yf stuff is super expensive. Can get 3 cans of R12 on eBay for near as much as one can of that carap.

It held a vacuum for about three hours but leaked due to a bad clamp. After the mechanic reworked the clamp. It was holding at 24 hours after that. Ordered new hoses and clamps yesterday to be safe.

There is a tbh express with HeyMikey being put together from Houston to DFW this weekend. That may work if you and him could meet Friday morning.
Really appreciate any help I can get in getting Blue Belle fully operational.
