Great pic!!! Those old timers always dressed well. Nowadays I see people looking like they fell on hard times fishing in $65k boats. Strange. Lol.

Those are the memories to cherish. And.... if only you had that car to this day!!!!

Had some good friends lived in Grapeland back about then. Gladys and Lunsford Hobson. He was a farmer/preacher. They were the salt of the earth kind of people. Your grandpa reminds me of him.

great pic. and gramps has that shirt buttoned to the top. Neatness was more important once upon a time. I guess I like my stretched out t shirt all the while wishing respect was daily part of life as it once was. Thankfully many folks particularly outdoors folks do put respect up front. And so many older pics no one smiles. Just an observation Thanks for sharing

Yeah he lived to 95 so in his lifetime we went from horse and buggy to men walking on the moon. (Not sure he ever really believed that one - too much to get his mind around)

It’s funny - every pic I have of him he’s standing ramrod straight and expressionless. I’ve always figured it’s because when he was young you had to pose like that for tintype photos with their long exposures

It’s wonderful that you have both the memories AND the pictures. They’re not only fun to look back on, they also serve to remind us of the values instilled by a simpler way of life.

My mother is the genealogist of our family and has amassed hundreds of pictures and documents from our past generations. My Mom spent hours with my daughter when she was younger, passing along the family legend and lore. I believe my daughter is the young lady she is today because she was raised by the stories of her ancestors. Oh, and I’m including that one night she spent in jail and the time she broke her foot “crowd surfing” at a Texas Tech football game. I blame them for that, too.

Very cool John. Knowing family history can be so rewarding. I don’t know mine so I’m a little envious of those who do. He looks like a man of character and the apple didn’t fall far from the tree.
