No, I will Root for Wisconsin.

Serious question. For those of you that went to TU... would you go there in todayís world or push your kids to go there?

My Dad and Uncle both graduated from Texas in the 70s. Neither would choose going to school there today.

I love the addition of UT and atm back together again. Graduated from there and State. What’s funny is my daughter graduates from atm august 13th. My skin will be burning that day. We both agree and all her friends agree that the game needs to be brought back. It’s gonna be fun. Btw, know lots of aggies who thought the video was funny with Cooper.

I did NOT go to Texas and never claimed to, though my sister did, I am just a football/baseball fan because that's what I picked when I was a kid.

That said, I would NOT push my son toward Austin unless he turns out to be the caliber of baseball player to be able to start there for some years. In todays climate, I would rather he went to atm of the two, but Tech or some smaller school would be preferable to either of them to me. None of which has anything to do with what football team I will root for in the meantime.

All senior colleges are liberal run and full of liberal professors. Big city institutions arenít for everyone.

Iím sure my kid will change his mind 100 times for what heíd like to do professionally, since Kindergarten he has wanted to be a wildlife biologist. He starts the 5th grade in a few weeks. That being said, I would currently push him towards A&M Corpus.

Iíd like to think weíd all steer our kids to go where best suited for a successful future.

Iím sure heíll have to go to school to play school, not sports.

No. 1 overall recruit Quinn Ewers tells @yahoosports heís ďleaningĒ toward skipping senior HS year and attending Ohio State. Ewers could then sign NIL deals worth nearly seven figures, which arenít allowed in Texas for high school players.

I'd absolutely "push" my daughter to UT. Kids and adults need exposure to different ideas, opinions, etc. in order to be well rounded, and come to terms with their own beliefs. I went to UT with all the opinions of my parents and left with a more open mind on a lot of things; and think I'm a better person for the experience.

Most of what I learned politically is that there are reasons for the views on both sides of the table, and you're allowed to say "I'm not sure" and change your mind on things. Austin and UT played a big part in that maturity.

I think "pushing" kids to always be around people of the same mindset is taking the easy way out.

Yes. All leftist issues and all. Hate to tell you the universities across the board are all far left and screwing with our youth. After Rice the degree from UT is next in value. Now if my child wanted to go to A&M because of a degree I wouldn't stop them. They are my kid and I will support them even when I know they are making a mistake. I do wish A&M would raise their entrance standards so it wasn't come one come all. I think that waters down the degree. Supply and demand so to speak. I am sure A&M has their resaons($) but Perry did the university no favors in dropping entrance standards.

Sorry but I had to since the SEC already has a "UT". The Third Saturday in October used to be a great rivalry. Coach Bryant hated them more than AU. Both kids have degrees from SEC schools. Both have strong intrastate rivals. Don't care who plays AU or Ol Miss....can't see ever cheering for either one.

I've been sitting on the sidelines reading this whizzing contest for the last few days when I needed a good laugh. Thanks for keeping it entertaining.

The response wasnít to you. Iím not sure what info youíre looking for. Grew up in lower middle class conservative family. 5a high school graduated at top of my class. Paid my way through school with the help of loans and what my parents could offer.

Went to UT very conservative (more libertarian, Ron Paul) and naive. Havenít change a lot how I vote politically, but I did have good conversations with people from the other side of the aisle and realize that for the most part they come to their beliefs sincerely and with good intentions.

I donít automatically hate or count people out because they have different political beliefs than me. I try to be open minded about politics and understand how and why people think the way they do.

I was influenced very little from the school itself. I am an engineering major and UT doesnít require any liberal arts class outside of what I tested myself out of. The only time I talked with professors was about math.

Not sure what else youíre looking for. UT Austin was a great experience for me. Now Iím successful, married with a kid, and work as an engineer.

My wife and I both have electrical engineering degrees from UT. Both our boys only applied to UT and ATM. Their preference was UT at the time (obvious bias from their parents). Neither got accepted into UT because of the stupid 8% rule. Each had a GPA over 4.0 but when you do sports, it actually knocks your GPA down. Plano schools has a lot of kids that take nothing but honors or higher classes. Oldest graduated from A&M with a petroleum engineering degree. The youngest just graduated with his masters in information systems.

I didn't push them one way or the other and would have been fine with them going to Texas even with changes in Austin. Both universities have great engineering schools and business schools. They were going to be ok either way.

Iíd have to argue that the value of my degree would be tough to quantify. Canít say Iíve ever had anyone from either of the schools you mentioned beat me out of a job or promotion in my construction career. Iíve only worked in the greater Houston and DFW markets so my exposure is limited to those 2 areas but Iím still pretty confident that the value is very high. SMU carries a lot of weight where I am now but that school wasnít mentioned.

All that to say, times are definitely changing at A&M.

Not a thing wrong with this. Good for you for being able to have good objective conversations with both sides. You don't have to hate someone just because of their affiliations in politics or schools for that matter.

Sounds awesome! I feel this is what it should be about if one chooses to attend a higher learning institution. Yes, kids will make their own decisions but there is always the nature vs nurture debate.

Not a thing wrong with this. Good for you for being able to have good objective conversations with both sides. You don't have to hate someone just because of their affiliations in politics or schools for that matter.

T-shirt BOB is being who he has always been. Vomiting ignorance is typical for him.
You're still just really butthurt.

Go back and read what he posted and tell me it didn't sound like his parents were conservative and he soaked up all the liberal Austin college stuff and came away a changed person.....a liberal.

Most of what I learned politically is that there are reasons for the views on both sides of the table, and you're allowed to say "I'm not sure" and change your mind on things. Austin and UT played a big part in that maturity.

I think "pushing" kids to always be around people of the same mindset is taking the easy way out.
I had the same experience. I was from a really small town and could have easily went to A&M and had a great college experience. Going to the University of Texas was the best decision I ever made. It didn't change my beliefs or values, but did teach me to think for myself and realize there is a whole lot of world out that has a different opinion, looks different, and lives different than I do and that is okay.

I am constantly amazed at the people that talk about Texas and Austin. Like every place, there are pros and cons to each of them. What gets me is the fact that people will fail to recognize the positives and only dwell on the negative to drive their narrative. In the end, I realize maybe those same people would have benefited from attending Texas and it reassures I made the right decision for me.

Thanks thatís a great perspective.

In terms of football, I was in the student section with my TAMU buddies the last game when Tucker kicked the winner. I cannot wait to ignite this rivalry again. Iíll probably never be a big conference fanboy, but I am definitely more excited about the competition in the SEC. Fun years ahead.

No doubt, but things change. Todays Austin is not the same as it was when you attended. It's what you are willing to tolerate or endure. Some embrace it, others dont. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer personally. It also depends what you are attending for.
This is a CFB thread, the majority of these kids could care less about local politics.

If the SEC Vote goes in TU favor tomorrow, I am convinced it was mail-in ballots, no voter ID required. None of y’all can convince me otherwise.
