    Longbow - Arrow Spine Question

I've got a 40-45lb/29 Rudder Longbow that I bought back in 2010 when I wasn't sure if I would like archery or not . 7 compounds later, I'm thinking of going back to it.

Years back when I was new and stupid, I went with what they suggested at Basspro which was a 400 spine shaft. Those things came out of that bow sideways. I'm assuming they went with the spine chart for recurves and compounds, because looking back, that seems a bit stiff.

I'm a 30 inch draw. What do ya'll suggest spine wise? .500s? or .400s with a ton of weight up front? I'll be shooting feathers off the shelf.

Try some 175 gr tips with the 400. May have to go with 500 on a selfbows. I had a rudder bamboo longbow that pulled about 50 lbs. I shot gt 35-55 and 125 gr tips and they flew good. Your 30 draw may change things though but your poundage is probably close to what I shot. 3 rivers web site has several arrow spine charts listed for various bow styles. I bet you will find your combination there.
