I saw that the new thread hasn't been started for this year, so I went ahead and created one! Application deadline has passed, once someone sees the results, please post them.

I had some hog scat last year in one of our areas. Likely one that just meandered through as never seen more sign or on camera. Just squirrels ate the corn

Find a food source, water source or flight path. Put out a mojo or two. Sit in chair in the shade with cooler of cold beverages next to you. Sit back and enjoy, with luck you might even get to knock a few dove down!

I had two hogs on my game cam back in 2011. Thatís the last time Iíve seen hogs and I used to get drawn every year. 3 year in a row for a swing and a miss.

I passed on putting in again this year. Was going to put in for the first two weeks of dove only. Up to the first weekend can be phenomenal if you know where to go. They do the same thing every year. They get real smart and fly around the property after that. But I got on a dove season lease this year. Gonna do that instead. The best to all.

Since the season doesn't open until the 3rd, I'll get in a couple of days dove hunting away from where I intend to deer hunt.

That and cars/trucks.

For those interested: Here's a "rough" map of what all area used to be open for hunting when I started out there in the early '80s. And what's left that still available. There was even a small area in Mustang Park that was open at one time. The black line with hash marks to the east running south is the train tracks. At the very back of Rocky Creek park was another area that ran all the way back to the RR trussel. On the north end of Rocky Creek was another old park section that ran north to the first house on Richardson Point. That was where the private started. Then the ACE picked back up in the now Richardson area as it does today. There was no High-school there. And we were allowed to park behind the ACE office and walk across that land because there was an access gate where the school road dead ends today.

Eventually, all hunting will be done away with out there. There were no houses on the north or east side of the lake back then. And no pump station in the Richardson area.

Iíve had some good dove hunts and scent early season teal out there. You have to pay attention when you apply to only select dates that are during deer season unless you want to dove hunt. I used to live 15min away so I loved being able to run over before and after work. Didnít apply this year since i moved, good luck to everyone that got draw

This tag has become difficult to draw, due to the over crowding of applicants.
Used to draw every year, now strike out always.
Good hunting is hard to come by, and the more people blab about free hunts, the more crowded places become.
Best of luck to all of those new applicants that heard about good hunts online !

Howdy y'all! I got lucky enough to get drawn for the opening 2 weeks! Hoping that it cools down by then to get them moving a little better.

I scouted last weekend, found lots of heavily used trails and fresh doo-doo piles. I even stumbled across a doe and fawn playing in the creek on my hike back to the truck, pretty cool!

Anyways, I'll see y'all out there Oct 3rd and good luck to everyone!

The last I heard there were 10 applications for every 1 spot available. Some people self select. The letter that came with the permits said there were 8 people that were drawn but disqualified because they didn't turn in their survey forms.

I've been scouting at Benbrook the last couple week. Seen a couple does in person, even in the middle of the day when it was 100+, which is always a good sign. Got several legal 8 points on camera and found a shed that had 7 points on it!!! As of last week, they were all still in full velvet, hoping this cooler weather will get them rubbing.

Side note, someone out there has been tampering with one of my cameras. I followed the trail down a little further into the brush to find someones hidden tree stand which really ticked me off. Assuming that it belongs to whoever was messing with my camera...

Rules are rules regardless of how silly they seem. Issues like having stands out there when its not your hunt will get this hunting area shut down.

Benbrook removes stands illegally placed if they know about them. Seen them out there before doing that when out scouting.

I drove around the lake this evening and saw a bachelor group of 5 bucks. Two were real nice mature bucks. One was much bigger bodied and darker than the others. They weren't very far from Holiday Park along Lakeshore Drive. Of course they were a long way from the hunting areas.

Also, I just looked through the rules. It doesn't say anything about not being able to have your blinds up before your hunt, just after. " All blinds must have hunterís name, date of installation, address and phone number written legibly and placed at the entry point of the blind in an obvious location. Blinds must be removed at the end of each hunters 2 week permit."

technically you aren't supposed to put your stand up until your 2 week hunt window begins - but in my experience if nobody reports it, the corp won't know its there.

there is a stand out there going on +2 years now, vines have it nearly completely entangled...its in a very popular and obvious spot.

Went out today to hang a couple of cameras and there were a couple of dove hunters out but not many birds flying. Not seeing as much sign in the area we hunted last year. The pressure put on these deer with l the new Covid hikers around has impacted the movement

Hadn't even thought about how Covid hikers would pressure the deer. Dang

We specially asked this question and was told it was only legal to have up during your period. We even had the ranger on camera going through one of the scouting spots. We asked what would happen if blind was up early, and he said they will ticket you. Seems you can risk having confiscated but placing your name on it just give them data to ticket you with.

I decided to just give up that spot to the person with the illegal stand. Don't want to hunt around a person who is the type to mess with someone's camera and not follow the rules of when they can put up their stand. If I see who is going in there during the season the ranger will probably be getting a call.

Wen out and checked cameras a couple of days ago. Saw several does with fawns but not much action on cameras. Dove hunters were not having much luck that afternoon. On the way back to the truck, 3 bucks crossed in front of us and ran within site of the parking area. All still in velvet.

We have 4 cameras out and we are not seeing much on them. even the area we hunted last year that was covered in sign has only yielded 3 photos in over a week. Good luck to all.
