I was shooting at Fort Worth rifle and pistol club many moons ago. A guy with a Colt Navy black powder revolver was shooting next to me. Unfortunately he had doubled dropped charge in one cylinder and it burst on firing. I took some shrapnel in the face and neck. Nothing life threatening but it stung and bled quite a bit. Was able to pick most pieces our but a couple of slivers festered up and squeezed out later.
Scared the **** out of both of us.

So what’s the takeaway from this? Did he fire the wrong round out of the gun? Crappy to hot reload?

Guy is very lucky!!! I would say that one mistake is shooting ammunition that he had no history on....he admits the ammunition is unknown source and date. I won’t shoot ammo that I don’t know where it came from and/or if it’s older stuff

His prior training and his fathers quick thinking is what saved his life. Was in the vehicle and on the way to the hospital in less than 60 seconds after it happened. He plugged the hole with his fingers and crimped his neck to slow bleeding. Impressive

The SLAP round he mentions blowing up in the gun is meant for an M2 machine gun not shoulder fired rifle. They’re meant to punch through light armor and be an anti-material round. They only come linked and if you buy one individually it has been delinked from a belt.

Oh. I suppose that’s why I only shoot factory loads from the box or stuff I loaded personally. That looks like it sucked hard.
