Doe have been few and far between for me.

I saw bucks, mostly small, chasing does as far as the binoculars could see on Saturday morning. Like others, nothing to shoot at. I did see one really nice buck on a neighboring property. Such is the story of my life.

CJ that is a cool buck. Looks like his rack is carved out of wood. Lots of character. An old warrior for sure.
With the hard freezes and the grass dying on the big ranch we are seeing our second wave of mid sized bucks move in. With our wheat and oats just now coming up it could get real good in mid to late December. Weve had 6-8 deer like these that are just now showing up.

I'm headed up to the Knox / Foard county line tomorrow to hunt through Sunday.

Anyone been hunting this neck of the woods that can report on the rut activity?

I've had this trip planned for awhile but it appears that mother nature isn't going to cooperate. A full moon and daily temps in the upper 70's is less than ideal

We still have an abundance of quail on our place in Archer, they seem to be thriving the last five years or so.

Thanks for the responses yíall. Certainly been spoiled the last couple of years.

If you have decent numbers and have a quail spot open Iíd love to chat. I donít think our main placeís numbers will justify the cost this year

I created a thread about the Tuesday morning I had. But to make a long story short, my Polaris is toast. Walked back up to stand and shot a decent buck. No bruiser by any means but heíll eat. I did think the buck was going to be a little bigger based on the game camera pictures I had though.

Thanks. Not sure what happened. I let it idle about 3-5 minutes than morning and drove about 2 minutes before I parked it. Drove it a lot more than that since Friday AM (burned Tuesday morning). Maybe rats built a nest by the exhaust overnight? Who knows.

Iím just blessed it didnít catch fire in the back of my truck or in my garage.

Bump for this thread, got my feeder and stand setup in Jacksboro this weekend and got a small pig with my 4yr old with me for his first animal while hunting this Monday. Will be hunting on and off this weekend starting tomorrow. Good luck to everyone, I love the nasty weather so I’m excited to put in some hrs on the stand.

Our oats and wheat are coming up nicely. The weather is killing the pasture grasses. I saw a really tall tined heavier horned mature 150 ish 10 point yesterday morning. He was purdy. I have put a minimum of 160 on myself from here on out. If I see him with my grandson he will be shot at!

We finally got one of our lease mates to come out for his first hunt this year. He has been on the lease for 5 years and has shot some smaller cull bucks. He isn't as big of a hunter as most of us. He just likes hanging out and getting away. I think he might have gotten the big buck bug now shooting a 13 point.

From here on out is when we have seen our biggest bucks. Hope it holds true again this year.

Knox county I believe. Low fence. Crowmagnum had him on camera during the summer in velvet and then right before bow season out of velvet at one of his feeders. (There are pictures posted earlier on this thread) All the rain came and he couldn't get to where he was at for awhile. His neighbors to the south got him. That's all I know about it.

Anyone throw corn/roasted soybean mix?

Iíve used it in NE Texas with no better results than corn. Tried it during various periods throughout the year.

Thinking about trying some out in Jack County. Anyone use this with good results in my neck of the woods?

Never tried that combo. Our deer are weird. We built cotton seed feeders and the deer never touched it. We put molassis tubs in the pens and they ran from it. I put out vanilla corn and the quail loved it. Who knows.

I use Mr. Buck on our place in Hardeman. It’s a corn and roasted soybean mix that smells like peanut butter. Our deer love it and it offers 16% protein that helps the antlers in the offseason and to put fat back on after the rut. As far as cottonseed, I’ve heard it takes awhile before the deer will eat it, if at all.

Iíve used an alfalfa pellet/corn mix since August. First year on the place and first place to use it so I canít comment on much about it. But I will say I had far more bucks on camera than two other guys until late bow season (no one but us 3 uses cams). Then the hogs moved in on me. Took a couple weeks to shoot enough of them so theyíd move on.

I may just keep using this mix. The alfalfa pellets get cleaned up pretty good and offer good protein without having to worry about it swelling in my spin feeder.
