Looks like the bucks were moving late in the day today. The Hag thread had some good kills and they were all around 3 to 4 pm.

So of course, for the first time in three years, this guy shows up during the day during legal hunting season. Where am I? In the hospital with my wife and new daughter! Crossing my fingers he'll come back next week when I'm out hunting!

Cams say everything is moving at night. I saw my first deer all season at 8am today. 3yo buck by himself.

My son had a buck chase a doe into his area yesterday morning, then last night right before dark the same small buck and a doe came in with a bruiser but he stayed too far out of range. South Grayson County

Sat all day yesterday (5am to 6pm) and had movement between 6am to 10am and from 1pm to 6pm. Saw 7 deer and they were all 1 to 3 yr old bucks and they were only passing through. Also had a group of hogs come late but I guess my all day sit created some scent because they winded me at about 60 yards and took off.

Saw no does or bigger bucks so they must be locked down or hiding

One of the bucks was pretty fired up as well I grunted at him a few times and watched him stomp and walk in a huge circle peeing all over the place. Then he walked off so I gave him a rattle and he came running back! Fun times

Oh and this buck had really dark tarsal gland so I'm thinking still pre-rut.

Not seeing any deer to say for sure, but they have to be doing it in Cooke, it happens right now every year.

One of the people we know that hunts around us shot a mature 8 Sunday evening. I can't post pictures out of respect for his wishes not to. But, he was definitely old and a slick 8.

We are also seeing increased activity at night by poachers/spotlighters. Luckily we ran them off before they could shoot. We were able to get a plate number and the GW is pursuing that person as we speak.

They were chasing pretty good over around Gordonville area through yesterday. Didnt see any activity where we were at today. Probably due to the high winds and weather.

Default Later in the year?

This is my first year to hunt this county and frankly have been perplexed a bit compared to other areas I have hunted. What does history tell you about when deer are mostly harvested? Is it during the pre-rut, rut, or later in the season when it gets cold? I find it interesting that we are all seeing the same thing. Basically night activity with little to no activity during daylight hours. I am hoping that as temps start dropping, the deer start moving more regularly.

Yesterday morning about 20 min after 1st light had 1 doe about 200 yrds away. About 10 yrds behind her had a possible 150 plus following her every move. Climbed down to try my chances at a stalk. Wind in my face she busted me about 100 yards out. Crazy old lady blew and they both disappeared into thin air.

Welcome to Grayson County....people who come here expecting an easy hunt and a 180+ behind every tree usually leave highly disappointed and don't last long here.

I'm not expecting to come in and shoot a 180 from under a feeder. Quite the contrary. I've hunted DIY hunts in Idaho, Colorado, and Montana and that isn't easy. What I am really shocked about is the behavior of does. Ours are almost as nocturnal as the bucks and we have not seen on doe being chased this year. We have 7 bucks on camera that are 130 or better class deer. So, we know they are there. I've heard that Grayson gets better when it's cold. Even better than the rut. Just trying to get a gauge on how these animals work in a normal year

Got tired of seeing hogs on the cameras and lately they've been getting out of control, so put up the crossbow today and broke out the "house cleaner"! Killed these in the last 2hrs of the day and hopefully will push them to move on somewhere else. Oh and there's about 40 piglets roaming the woods now.

I'm happy to host a hog killin at our place after deer season. All you need to bring is a night vision weapon. We will go hog wild at 1:00 am
