Default Air Travel PSA

A gaiter is no longer an acceptable face covering to get on an airplane. The Chinese made disposables and ďfashionableĒ cotton masks with gaps everywhere are still perfectly fine though.

Also, the poor two/three year old girl in front of me was hassled several times by the flight attendant because her nose wasnít completely covered.

I just had this crap happen in Houston but the Vegas airport was fine with my gaiter?. Ridiculous that people think think a .50 cent piece of paper makes a dang difference..

Never trust a flight attendant. Bandanas are the only things not allowed by United. I fly next week, and have a print out of their requirements as of last week.

Edit: Their site still says this.

Southwest is saying otherwise on there website and so is the CDC. I am not going to get kicked off a flight over it but I would **** sure ask the question.

Someone got their feelings hurt, so we have to wear a mask that they approve of. Idiots. None of these work.

I guess if they provide one I will wear it. I only use a gaiter if I wear one at all.

Careful to not let this get you on the do not fly list, removal of your TSA Precheck, or Global entry.

Me as well but I never even carry anything other than a buff. I guess they would have given me one but you would think they would post it on there website. I am not missing or getting kicked off over a mask but you would think they would make it less problematic for those that would.

Edit
I found where SW speaks specifically to it and it looks like you are required to fold it. Learned something new and why I wouldn't argue it.
In accordance with the Federal law, a properly worn mask completely covers the nose and mouth, is secured to the head with ties, ear loops, or elastic bands that go behind the head, and fits snugly against the side of the face. Cloth masks should be made with two or more layers of a breathable fabric that is tightly woven (i.e., fabrics that do not let light pass through when held up to a light source). Neck gaiters (also called multi-bands) may be worn as mask so long as they have two layers of fabric or may be folded to make two layers and cover the nose and mouth and are secured under the chin.

I had 4 flights last week, on my very last flight the gate attendant tried telling me my mask was not acceptable and handed me a paper mask, i walked off and kept my buff on and the flight attendants never said anything.

Have a family friend who flew around the holidays with their 2 yr old, who kept pulling the mask off, about half way thru the flight I think Mom & Dad just gave up trying to keep it on. When they landed at their destination the flight attendant asked the family to remain seated while the rest of the flight de-planed. When the plane was empty they were notified they had been put on the “no fly” list and would need to make alternate travel arrangements for their return flight. 19-eighty-effing-4

Probably so...and the chances are good that they don't take precautions on any other area of their life when it comes to their health, yet they're mask police who are on the lookout for anyone who dares to not wear a mask that leaves multiple gaps against the skin

I'm sorry, I call BS on that one. I haven't seen a 2 year old required to wear one, ever.

Edit: well, I was wrong, TSA say 2 year old's are required to wear one. Still BS, but in a different way.

Dang....We flew with our 1 YO about 3 months ago, and he was a terror. Dealing with him meant sometimes our mask (Or my buff) came off. I usually put it back on relatively quickly. Flight attendant couldn't have been any nicer about the masks and our crazy son.

We also flew first class home, so maybe it made a difference...

Edit: myway, I think you misread it.

I vote we put all kids under 5 on the no fly list, and make those 5-10 take a test 1st to see if they can not act like a poorly trained pet.....but I digress.

I'll never fly without a mask again.
Dang near every time I fly I get a nasty cold from all the sick folks on the flight already. If I had known all I had to do was wear a little piece of cloth over my mouth and nose to prevent that is have done it 30 years ago.

Give me a 5-10 year old any day of the week. Test the generic business *** hat that thinks the world revolves around him and we should all know it. Hell give me a screaming toddler and I will hold them over that guy.

I can usually get that guy to shut up. If I told someone elses kid to shut up, I'd get Karen'd off the plane....and it aint the kids fault anyway. Toddlers shouldn't fly.

Flown for years for work all over the world and married to a fight attendant.

They have their own corporate policies and FAA to follow. If they decide to enforce on the plane itís up to them honestly in my own personal opinion. Most the flight attendants working currently are long time employees (+20 years) due to furloughs. Theyíve dealt with all types of people and all types of *******s from all different cultures. In the end, you canít fly without them... Pick your battles wisely and appropriately for you, but a mask or a neck gaiter or whatever isnít worth an argument or a fine honestly. Regardless of your personal ďI gots rightsĒ principles.

Like you, theyíre trying to maintain their hours to provide for their family. There are better people to **** on for your disdain on having to wear a mask and more than likely having an argument on a plane due to a mask with you isnít their first one of the day.

Been flying couple times a month during this covid crap. Always used my neck gator to cover my nose and mouth. Never got sick. Now that it's a federal mandate that neck gators cannot be used, I switch to the disposable paper mask and what happens, caught covid. Thanks Biden administration.

We missed several trips because I didnít think my son was ready to fly, and made some long drives instead. No one wants to fly with a toddler, but they donít want to be inconvenienced either... most parents arenít willing to make minor sacrifices, but they expect everyone else to.

This right here. I will not be getting on another plane for a family trip until the kids are at least 4-5 and can be reasoned with walk on their own and wipe their own ***. In the mean time we will just have some long 14-16 hr drives but better than sitting on a plane for 3 hrs with a toddler. Or the grandparents can come visit.

Southwest website says...
"Acceptable forms of masks
In accordance with the Federal law, a properly worn mask completely covers the nose and mouth, is secured to the head with ties, ear loops, or elastic bands that go behind the head, and fits snugly against the side of the face. Cloth masks should be made with two or more layers of a breathable fabric that is tightly woven (i.e., fabrics that do not let light pass through when held up to a light source). Neck gaiters (also called multi-bands) may be worn as mask so long as they have two layers of fabric or may be folded to make two layers and cover the nose and mouth and are secured under the chin.

In addition, if your mask meets the requirements noted above, the following are acceptable:

Clear masks or cloth masks with a clear plastic panel to facilitate communication with people who are hearing impaired or others who need to see a speaker’s mouth to understand speech.
Medical masks and N-95 respirators.
The following are some examples of coverings that will not be accepted:

Masks not made of a solid piece of material, including those made of mesh or lace fabrics or with slits, exhalation valves or punctures
Face shields (face shields may be worn in addition to a mask that meets the above required attributes)
Bandanas, scarves, ski masks, or balaclavas
Shirt or sweater collars (e.g., turtleneck collars) pulled up over the mouth and nose
Masks made from loosely woven fabric or that are knitted, i.e., fabrics that let light pass through
Masks that do not fit properly (large gaps, too loose or too tight)"

Such BS!

I suspect they will not say a word unless you have a over achieving flight attendant.

Well boys...I routinely fly with kids.....yeah I am that guy. I apologize to everyone who has ever been on a plane with us. We try our best to keep them quiet but it doesn't always work that way.

Going to see if the two and half year old can keep a mask on in a couple weeks. May be driving back. We shall see.

Flew out of Hobby yesterday. The TSA agent prior to going through security made me take off my gaiter and handed me a disposable mask. She said gators aren’t acceptable anymore. I sucked it up for the 2 hour flight, and hated it. I won’t be flying again until they do away with the mask mandate
