Default Gun Safe Wonít Open

I have a Safari Gun Safe that wonít open. When I Ďwake upí the key pad it tells me low battery; the battery LED indicator shows about 1/3 full. I enter the correct code, it says Ďopení, but the door wonít unlock.

There is a small pin hole on the key pad; it doesnít look like there is any hex key or screw in there. Smallest hex I put in there didnít grab anything. I tried using a door punch and pushing around in there.

I tried rotating the keypad from the safe but no dice.

Put a new battery in it.. Mine does the same thing all the time.. New battery fixes it Everytime. These junky things like a hot battery. They won't operate on a battery a little on the low side.

Default Gun Safe Wonít Open

Battery is too low to disengage the lock. The silver ring around the keypad should rotate off

Yup. I have a liberty at the ranch. Duracell works and oddly enough would not reset with a new Energizer. Bought a two pack of Energizers--recent manufacture--and wouldn't work with either. New Duracell opened right up. Odd.

Correct, thank you. Poorly worded on my part. And of the nth YouTube videos I have watched, I haven’t seen one with this keypad. All the others the battery pops right out of the bottom or the keypad pops off.

Try pushing up on entire key pad with the base of your palm. (Pretty firmly)

The keypad twists off allowing access to change the battery. I think you twist counter clockwise if I remember correctly.

Well it appears this keypad wasnít meant to come off. I broke the three plastic pins holding it on.

The small hole on the keypad seems to be a way to deliver auxiliary power? How would I go about doing that? What tool/device is needed?

My Cabelas(Liberty) won't open first try. Beeps for a few seconds and NADA.

Do the combo second time and opens right up. Think I'll replace the battery soon.

I’m sure it is, but when I got this second-hand several years ago the original owner had lost the key.. I’m moving to a new house Friday and in a bit of a pinch now.

Battery is accessible from inside, but that entails getting it open first.

This is what I did. I took the electronic lock off my cannon safe and replaced with a big red dial. Old school but I KNOW I can get into it even after an EMP strike.

My buddy had the same problem he had to get a lock smith to do it. Took 2 hrs and $350. Batteries corroded the wire.Cannon reimbursed it, and the locksmith said never use Duracell batteries. Only use Eveready batteries. He said failed keypads keep him in business .

Just a side note: Cannon will not honor a warranty if you are the 2nd owner.. Only honors for the original purchaser.. Make 0 sense AT ALL but that is exactly what they told me..

I go through at least 3-4 9V batteries a year on my big Cannon.. It will drain them just setting there.. Once they get a little low they will not operate the lock actuator..

When the locksmith comes to open it have him replace the digital with a manual dial. Then you are emp proof and no more batteries!

This is great in theory, but when the dial slips and your combo changes unbeknownst to you, you'll have the same problem. I've had a Cannon for 15+ years and this happened to me 6-7 years ago. Finally got it opened and switched to a digital pad and have never had a problem since. If we get hit with an EMP, I've got enough hand tools to break into it.

Glad you got it open, but that seems like a terrible design. If your battery ever goes out you have to do something like that? I guess maybe the key is your only backup.

I’m getting close to needing a bigger safe anyway and will 100% not be going digital. This safe was given to me for free and I’ve always heard horror stories like what I went through. My issue was manageable, but not going through that again.

FWIW- learned this safe runs on 4 AAs. There was also sign showing corrosion on the battery terminal was starting to begin.

Alkaline is alkaline. They are all gonna leak at some point.

Get Lithium and be done with it for a long time and no leaking.
