Default Tint law

Is the tint law still enforced? Iíve literally seen vehicles that I canít see driver at all. Only reason Iím asking is because Iíd like to go a little darker on the front Na myself. Yalls take?

Problem will be inspection. It is still a law but I have not heard of guys carrying a meter for years. Now at inspection station they do meter them depending on the station

Yep still enforced. It's used as PC at our little department that I chaplain for and we have a meter that floats around on patrol.

In the past I have gone with limo in the back and 20% in front, I never had problems. I know people that do limo all the way around including windshield, I tell them they are asking for problems.

Totally understand from cops point as well. I was always concerned that someone was in the back seat with a sawed off shotgun pointing at me at 1:00 am when pulling someone over. Like I said earlier I’ve seen a ton of vehicles here in Katy that are so dark I can barely make out the driver.

Gotcha Big. Just wanted maybe a shade darker for my front two windows on longer trips you can still get fried depending on where the sun is at.

Many, many years ago when I was a volunteer firefighter in my small town the local cops would come by the station to eat lunch or chill for a bit. We got in the subject of tint, mufflers, slightly blocked license plates and other odd laws. He said they never pull anyone over just for that. However if they thought they needed to pull you over those type laws made a good reason.

Absolutely. It is called a pretext stop or a fishing expedition, upheld in a unanimous Supreme Court in Whren g. US.

Even RBG voted in that one.

So how does the law read now tvc? Is 20% illegal? Kinda thought maybe the sunset act killed the law.

I have limo and an eyebrow around every vehicle I drive. Until last year, never had any issues.. last year had to take my vehicles to a few places until someone didn't whine about it at inspection.

Only time it sucks is backing a boat down the ramp in on a dark morning, other than that well worth it in my opinion.

We can legally go 5% tint on all of our windows do to our daughters vision conditions but my wife and I decided not too. Id hate to go out for dinner, have a drink and get pulled over for tint. We went 5% back, 30 front.

I literally just came from having my car tinted. I asked why do they let you go dark as you want everywhere but the sides? I asked is it a vision thing or LEO safety thing? He said, he thinks itís a vision thing.

My (new to me) 2018 F250 has limo all around and a 8” limo brow. I have to admit. I really like it during the day. But it can be a PITA it at night. So not sure if I’m gonna pull it off yet. But as far as inspection and police. I have not had a problem. But I do live in a town of 2,500 so that might help

Stupid reason to give someone a ticket but yeah unfortunately there’s some cops that are about it and it happened to me the other week. Gave me a ticket for it. Truck got stolen about 2 weeks after it so can’t tell you price of ticket for it since I didn’t make it that far with the process. But I’ll continue to get dark tint hate people being able to “window shop”

Iíve only written 1 or 2. Texas is 25%. One guy I wrote was 0% on all windows, tail lamps completely dark along with windshield. Worked at the tint shop and knew better. Other one had 3 tickets and 5 warnings.

Huge difference and way worth it. I even have clear ceramic on my windshield plus a 5% brow. Major difference. I tried to get em to do my front door windows darker than legal but not by much and they wouldnít haha.

Thereís no law when your drinking the claw. Until you get into an accident at night and one of the contributing factors is your window tint and you get sued personally for it. Mine are dark too. It Iíve seen a lot of stupid stuff over the years as well.

I like 20 on the fronts, it usually matches the back doors from the factory. I don’t usually tint the back glass if it comes from the factory already tinted. With the back glass tinted factory and no brow on the windshield, it allows cops to see thru the truck when they meet you, and the darker front windows makes it harder for crooks to see your possessions.

Knowing Katy PD, they will probably use it to pull you over. They do a great job, but really need to focus on speeders a little more. Itís getting ridiculous.
