Chestnuts roasting over an open fire.......

Have heard/listened to "The Christmas Song" a 1000 times over my lifetime and have always heard those words in my title mentioned.

My daughter bought some raw chestnuts the other day for us to try. Today we decided to roast them in the oven and I must say that they are probably in the top 5 most disgusting foods I have ever eaten.

My question to anyone that has tried them is do you find them good to eat?

    Bahhh humbug chestnuts

You have to follow recipe. It clearly states "open fire" not in an oven

Also just tried some chocolate covered chestnuts and they tasted like chocolate covered *hit.

I was in Georgetown, Colorado near the train depot one Christmas. While waiting there was a guy roasting chestnut over an open fire. They were terrible. The taste stayed with me the whole polar express train ride. No matter what I ate or drank. That taste was there....

Chestnuts or Chet's nuts? I am told, there is a discernible difference?

Was walking down street in Mew York city. Guy was selling chestnuts from vendor cart. I had never tried and it was Christmas so bought a bag. Almost puked when I ate it. Didn’t have a drink. Haven’t had one since.

Reminds me of a joke involving a parrot a lighter and some nuts.

One year I somehow ended up at Dickens on the Strand in Galveston. They were selling them in a rolled up piece of newspaper. I bought some and couldn’t get through the 1st one. Dumped then in the trash. Agree, they are Nasty.
