Wife wants to visit Tahoe this summer and wants me to schedule everything...you know because my attention to detail is renown.
![]() There are lots of options in a place that I know very little about. South Shore? North Shore? Nevada? California? We're looking for really nice places with first class accommodations, a casino or close by, golf or close by, and great restaurants. What do you know about beaches, boat rentals, other things to do? Thanks in advance. Curt |

Stateline is where the action is. The North side is much more remote. Squaw Valley resort is open in the summer and you can take the tram up to mid mountain and drink at the bar. The views are incredible. There are plenty of places to rent boats, I rented one somewhere on the Nevada side IIRC. The water is very cold.

Nevada side if you like gambling. Lots of tour boats on the lake and lots of different prices on them. I've been there a few times and besides Jackson Hole it is my favorite place. We always went during the winter so no clue for during the summer. You will love it. Weekends are filled with people from California.

We have been twice in 2 years. Wife's boss has a condo there and schedules a "mandatory fun trip" for the entire office, typically 10 of us.
We fly into Reno, grab a rental car and stop at the Walmart closest to the airport for provisions (beer, wine, liquor, and snacks). Head to Tahoe, it's about an easy 45 minute drive to the resort. We stay in North Star Village. Property is nice. There is a gondola from that parking lot to the Ritz Carlton. Last time we were there, we tried to go have a drink and appetizers but a law firm had the ENTIRE place booked and we couldn't get in the front door.... ![]() Truckee, CA is about a ten minute drive from the North Star Resort. Quaint little town, has a main street with shops, restaurants, bars, etc. On the first trip, he took us on car ride around the entire lake (highway/main road makes a loop). On the east side of the lake there is a lot more to do and see than in North Star. There is a small town named Incline Village on the east side of the lake. There is a Hyatt Regency there with access to a beach area of the lake. Very cool area and a must see spot. Also a casino in the hotel. We were going to eat at the Lone Eagle Grille, which is right across from the Hyatt, but gambling, drinking and having a good time got in the way... ![]() There is a neat hiking trail just outside the town called East Shore Trail. It's paved and has a bunch of scenic spots. We hiked it on a Sunday afternoon. We found a small beach area off that trail and sat for a while. Saw a lot of people on the beach with picnic baskets, beer, wine, etc. As you get into South Tahoe, there is a lot to see and do. When we drove through, I wanted to stop and get out but we were traveling as a group and everyone was ready to get to Emerald Bay (really cool scenic spot). Most of the larger hotel chains are in south Tahoe (Hard Rock, etc.). Plenty of dining, concerts, casinos, etc. If we ever travel there by ourselves, this is where we will stay. On the first trip, we went to eat at Garwood's on the lake. Good food, GREAT drinks (https://www.garwoods.com/signature-cocktails.html), known for their Wet Woody's. We also ate at Moody's in Truckee. It's in an old building with lots of history. Food was good there as well. This trip we ate at Bar of America in Truckee. Get the "shooters" it's a stuffed jalapeno, battered and deep fried with a dipping sauce, very good. Both times we went in the off-season. Not as much to see and do, but we are talking about going back in the summer with our girls (23 and 25). |

I have been there and I wish I could help you, but some woman planned it all for me and I just went with is like a good husband does. I do know we stayed on the north side in an awesome house that had entirely too many stories, but it was nice. There was a casino nearby but they required a mask back then so I stayed at the house and had my own fun. We did ski during the day.

Gordon Ramsey has a restaurant at one of the casinos in stateline. It's really the only restaurant i regret missing out on. i also wish i could have gone to the Tahoe Trout Farm but they weren't open when i was there. The only restaurants we went to twice were MacDuffs Pub and sushi pier tahoe. not first class but good food. they may still be actively enforcing covid nazi rules, so be prepared.
unless you know a local fisherman that can show you where to fish from the shore, don't do it. otherwise get out on a boat so you can move around. it's in commiefornia so there are some pretty intense fishing regulations. if you enjoy hiking there are a few trails, the most scenic that I know of was Vikingsholm (or something) at emerald bay. |

We have been skiing with friends at North Star during spring break for the last 8 years.
I don't know much about the summer scene, but I can recommend good restaurants on the north side. Wolfdale's, Tahoe City - 1st class place for a nice dinner date. The food is amazing. Moody's, Truckee - Also a good dinner spot with live music and more of a "night life" scene. Jax at the Tracks, Truckee - great lunch spot featured on some TV show that my wife is fired up about. Wagon Train, Truckee - my top breakfast choice. The food is authentically good, but also the owners are refreshingly and overtly conservative. It feels and tastes like any diner in small town Texas which is a nice change of pace while surrounded by hoity toity stick up their @#$ Californians for a few days! |

South Lake Tahoe narrowly escaped being burned down last summer, the whole Tahoe basin area was evacuated due to the fire/ smoke and the water level dropped due to reduced snow pack melt-off exposing algae to the air which stunk.
It’s dryer this year than last in Cali. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Despite the water being uncomfortably cold, there is a place you have to hike down where folk swim nude. You’ll see cars parked on the side of the road for what seems for no reason, then you go down.
You never seen so many shriveled pods. |

For what you named I think you should check out Edgewood resort in South Lake Tahoe. Great golf course, casinos near by and provides first class accommodations. I am not sure it gets better than this place.
https://edgewoodtahoe.com/ I'll be in South Lake Tahoe in early June, see you there! |

I concur with Reddoghunter. Another casual eating place is MacDuff's Pub in South Lake. They have great Corned Beef and Cabbage, and Shepard's Pie. If catch any fish, have them cook them for you. Also, if you stay in South Lake and your lodging has bicycles, they are pretty handy and fun to get around. Lots of trails beside the roadway to use. Be sure to take a day to drive around the entire lake. Stop at look-out points and admire the beauty.

Vikingsholm Castle in Emerald Bay is a good, short two mile hike. You can take the Gondola at Heavenly and hike from there also. My favorite activity was an unguided horseback trail ride around North Lake Tahoe. Go on a raft float trip on the Truckee River if there is enough river flow. There should be condos to rent in South Lake Tahoe.

It’s off the beaten path but Sasquatch tavern and grill in Verdi NV is super cool. Wife and I went there a couple weeks ago on a Reno trip. Get there early for lunch. Great food and large portions.

If you are a mountain biker, go do the Flume Trail. You can walk it too, but the views are incredible. Overlooks the Beach area at times, you are at the top of the mountains looking down. Once in a lifetime bike trail my buddy and I did.

Agree, booked a trip months ago for mid June and only a handful of nice rentals were available. Also flights have more than doubled in the last month alone. Good luck!

Rent a 18' motorboat for 1/2 or full day. See it all. South to Emerald Bay all the way to the entire North side. We set aside a day for this everytime.
First morning we take off and tour the entire perimeter and lunch on North before heading back down the East side. Fishing isn't worth it in the summer. Great fish are only caught in the Winter. Notice the trophy pics. Last edited by tigerscowboy; 05-18-2022 at 11:20 PM. |

At the risk of repeating myself, if you’re going, go earlier in the summer. This was last August in the Tahoe basin. And yes, if it burned in 2021 it can burn again in 2022.
When we lived in Cali Tahoe was a beautiful place to visit- lots of good family memories. And a couple not so good when my parents visited and we rented a house together. Miss you still, Dad. ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I second making a stop at Garwoods and a drive to Truckee. Truckee is just a cool little town.
We went whitewater rafting out of Truckee and really enjoyed the scenery. It wasn't that difficult and tons of fun. |
