Tattoos - what advice would you give a young person?

Ok today I became SOLD OUT on as many tats as you can put on the human body!

I was at the convenience store and a dude walked in wearing shorts, flip flops and a tank top. He was covered in red hair - arms, back, neck, legs - but his tattoos helped hide that -- uugguh - gross!

Got some rowdy scars but never needed any ink to remind me of my stupid decisions in life.

Research your artist and look at his finished work on people not just drawings. Also look at their work 1,2or3 years after it was completed. Ive got several that I should have listened to this advice on. Good thing is crappy tattoos are easier to cover with the next one

I have several tats. A couple are cover ups. One to cover a name (stupid, stupid, stupid). The other to cover a jailhouse tat. Yeah, if I had it to do over again, I wouldn’t have any of them. The only, somewhat, intelligent thing I did in getting them was to get them high enough on my arms that they only show if I want them to, which is pretty much never.
It’s not up to me to judge what others do to themselves but others will. Be comfortable with that.
But the best advice I can give is don’t have any Regerts.

There are a whole lot of employers out there that won’t hear a word they are saying when they walk into the office for an interview sporting ink!

I hate to tell you, but none of us look good when we are old. I love seeing old folks sporting ink and the stories that they can tell about them. Tattoos are way more accepted now in a workplace. I wouldn’t get face tats or something like that, but anything that can be covered up is good to go with me. Like others have said, don’t budget shop for a tattoo artist.

I don’t have any ink. I’ve seen plenty of cool stuff and plenty of stupid stuff. So I can’t give much insight one way or the other.

But I would suggest YouTube and look up The Dropkick Murthy’s and “Rose Tattoo”. I’d tell the young person to take something from the spirit of that tune. My $0.02.

I wouldn’t think you would have to do much other than show pictures of how tattoos look when you get older/wrinkled up. I don’t think they are bad or gross, just not for me.

I have enough scars, don’t need a tattoo. I’d try to talk them out of getting a tattoo. My youngest step son came home with one, he said the Marines wouldn’t take him because you could see it below his tee shirt sleeve, but he’s in the Navy now.

The age thing shouldn't really keep anyone from getting a tattoo. When you're old who is gonna care? Who's going to care when they're old? We're talking about people that revert back their childhood eventually anyways so they may as well be tatted up.

Don't do it. I know there are employers that will not consider anyone with visible tattoos. Why cut yourself out of opportunities. Also, is the ink regulated by the FDA. If not you don't know what you are putting in your body.

This is excellent advice. All of these are important steps to consider/take when thinking about a tattoo. The only tattoo I didn't apply #6 on and did on a whim, I had to cover. Since I made that mistake I always wait and think a long time on what my next work will be.

I think the people with tats have established, that it would be the employers loss if they choose to not employ the tatted applicant. At least that is the general trend of the thread. Somehow I think the guy handing out the pay checks will have the last say.

Yall act like everyone with tattoos have them on there necks, face, and hands 🤣 🤣 🤣 omg yall kill me....Im a supervisor and my wife has a professional career as senior client relations specialist. It has never negatively affected us. Maybe yall good folks should all start praying for us tattooed folks because it sounds like we are going to hell🤣🤣🤣
