I've got a big hog at one of my feeders every morning and night. I'd like to take him out with my bow soon (hopefully Friday). I'm shooting a 60# Mathews VXR 29.5" draw, 4mm Victory VAP TKO arrows. 30 yard elevated shot.
Which of these broadheads would you choose for this task? These are what I have currently in my bag... - Annihilator 125XL - Rage Hypo NC +P 125gr - Wasp Boss SST 125gr - SEVR 1.5 125gr Last edited by Burwabit; 08-08-2022 at 12:02 PM. |

Whatever sharp heavy fixed blade you have. And crank the bow up to 70 and scoot up 10-15yds.
That coon looks like a little monkey in the 3rd pic. |

Sorry should have read your post better…
Of the heads you got the only one I’ve got experience with is the the rage hypo and it worked fantastically. I don’t have pics of that one but it was almost as big as my Megameat hole. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I would use the Wasp fixed blade. Get it crazy sharp, and make a good shot.

But, I'm also intrigued to shoot one with an annihilator. I need good blood and quick take down because the darn yaupon forest we have make recoveries challenging. Also, I want a pass through to get my expensive arrow back. |

Not a direct answer to your question, but this video has some great information to consider when taking down a big boar. Touches on broadhead selection and placement as well.

How fast is the arrow flying?
I am a fan of big expandables, regardless of what the ranch fairy thinks. Hit him in the armpit quartering away with the hypodermic and he will bleed out quick |

Wait for quartering away shot so you can get up in the vitals and go with the broad head your most accurate with.

Quartering away shot and you can tuck any of them into the pocket where it counts. And yes, your Rage will deploy at an angle.

Personally on a big hog, I would stay away from a 2 blade in fear that their fat would seal up the wound and make tracking tough. I would go with the Annihilator to get the pass through and blood you want.

I have heard good things about the G5 MegaMeat. I have three Gravediggers left to use up, then I will try the G5.

Behind the last rib quartering in and let it come out in front neck area….. dead within 60 yards or less!

Annihilator 125 and hold lower and more forward than you would on a whitetail. Most people try to shoot them behind the shoulder like a deer, the pigs lunge forward a little bit at the sound of the bow/arrow and all of a sudden you're in the guts and never find him.

Out of those the annihilator. I’ve shot a lot of big hogs (killed some, lost some) and landed on the single bevel 2 blade kudu points. Still good blood trails with a two blade but I shoot them for the penetration, straight up the front leg.

Anything tough and sharp. I’ve had the best luck putting the 200+ down fast (3 for 3) with enough blood to find them using Iron Will Wides on the end of a 500gr arrow pushed by 70#.

I'd use the head I wouldn't mind doing without. Hogs have a tendency to run a long ways in almost impassable thickets if not hit perfectly, and even if they are....Any of those you have ought to work.
