    Help identify this Sako.

I just picked up a Sako in .300 H&H but I can’t find a model number or anything stamped on it. Just the caliber, serial number, and made in Finland stamped on the barrel. It’s in pretty good condition, and it’s got some pretty wood.

Anyone got any experience identifying these old guns? Sakos have been historically tough to find the manufacturing date on.

Any proof stampings or markings on the action ? What about proof stampings on the barrel ? Based on your description, sounds like you have a Sako-Mauser. Before Sako introduced their own long action, they used Mauser actions that they bought from FN in the 1950’s. Often times they’re referenced as Sako FN Mausers. Sako introduced the L61R action in 1961, hence the name. If yours is original, that’s a nice find. Many of the 300H&H rifles were re-chambered to 300 Wthby since ammo was more readily available.
