Correctly said. I know we all hate to see suspected criminal get away and good people lose their jobs but it’s company policy to let um walk. A company see the loss as exceptable from being sued by the suspected criminal.

My Brother works for CVS pharmacies and had an assistant manager who was an army veteran. Stopped a guy leaving the store with alcohol and the guy threatened him with a bottle of wine. Yhis army vet took the bottle of wine away and beat the suspect over the head with it. The army veteran was fired and CVS was sued by the individual who was stealing. Yes, it’s a sad world we live in. Someone’s gonna need to get shot in the face before this stops. Yes I said that out loud. I’m sorry.

My home state is a sue happy state. Lawyers dominate bill boards state wide. Something I have never liked but in this situation I hope it helps this lady sue the hell out of Academy and gets a ton of money. Corporate America is becoming so liberal biased it is disgusting. Yes corporate America is not totally to blame you can add the legal system in there as well too. Corruption at the government level as well. If a criminal is injured during a crime and the company is later sued and loses the case because an employee stepped.up to try and stop it well that's screwed up and direct failure of the system and process. If anyone thinks otherwise they are part of the problem.

Although I side with the manager and absolutely hate thieves, confrontations like this is why I think businesses like this have that policy.

There’s no need to try to be a “hero” when you really have nothing to win and much more to lose. I do think businesses should consider changing their policy though!

I think Academy had the option to discipline the employee instead of firing her. As i read the incident report the employee was the victim of the assault. There needs to be some discretion in applying “company policy”.

Reminds me of a conversation I had with a coworker when I worked for a big corporate equipment company. This guy volunteered (with overtime pay) to stay at the office overnight while the yard was being paved. I asked him what his plan was if someone came in trying to steal something. When I was 18, I was working graveyard shift at a convenience store while waiting to go in the army. It was in a bad part of town in San Antonio. I was robbed one night and as soon as the robber left the store I grabbed my pistol and went after him. I caught up to the guy as he was crossing the street and I aimed right between his shoulder blades. He ignored my yells to stop and just as I decided to shoot, I noticed houses in the background and I knew I couldn’t pull the trigger. I just couldn’t take the chance of missing and hit one of those houses. I went back to the store and called the police.
The company I worked for fired me for violating company policy of carrying a firearm. I knew the rules but chose to go against them.
Those who make the rules generally don’t have to live with those rules.

Sounds like you also narrowly avoided a murder charge, although I'm sure times were different back then it was likely still not advised to shoot someone fleeing a crime in the back.
