I ranged the doe @ 45 yards as she left and turned in the lone Wolf for a shot if that was my only shot.

Then he did what I’ve never heard… the “roar”!!! He’s 60ish in front of me somewhere and “RD” is 60 behind he and it scared him it was so loud. Like a 5yo had a buck roar call and you told them try and break it screaming. Red stagg type roar.

When I heard that I figured he might respond to a snort… and he DID!

I finally get to see the buck and at 45 yards at waters edge I’m not WOW impressed… but plan on shooting. I can tell he had sooommmmeee mass

At the waters edge and posturing sideways it was shoot or try and complete with a real doe, I settled pin and sent the inadequate 415gr SlickTrick on a crash course!!!…. My longest whitetail shot by 13 yards.
All looked perfect!… until arrow reached the 38ish mark, and like slow motion I see the muscles flex and the belly dropping. Seems like an hour passed in flight…. WHACK!!!!
Drops in his tracks!!!! With another ROAR!
