    Week Fifty Trad FSC

    Fifty fox.

On a sheet of 8.5x11 paper, draw or print a fox sitting with the orientation being 8.5” side down to the ground. Itll be a small fox.
Mount the fox target above eye level. Mine will be on a ladder. (Sitting and shooting upwards at a target mounted high on a target backstop is fine too.) The foxes bottom should be at or above a line perpendicular to your eye
    Shoot at 13 yards.
One shot per day. First shot of the day.
Measure edge of shaft to pinjole aim point where desired for a kill. My pinhole aim point is center mass lung behind the front elbow.
Lowest measure wins. Automatic winner is first person to punch aimpoint.
5 days to shoot for lowest measure.

I cant seem to get TBH to load my fox drawing...for now.

Good skilling and have a great week!
    God bless!

Muse: I went on a stalk for a nice buck in a thicket last week with my compound in hand. I came upon a stopping point between a heavily used game trail that runs parallel to a dry creek and a feeding area and bedding area. Im still surveying everything and ranging shots and a female grey fox pops out of a thicket at 10 yards. She is downwind of me, looks at me then keeps moving...pauses at my scent trail and then scoots on. I had 20-30 yards of good shooting lanes at 10-15 yards. Meanwhile a male grey fox is in trail of her by 3-5 yards. This male is about the size of my small blue heeler. She stops to sniff my trail...he squats and looks at me. I pondered shooting him for a very short while. He scooted off to the creek trail and button hooks back towards her. I felt a minor impulse to kill him but thought to stay the course for the time being. I reckon they may use that side trail through the thicket regularly and a good setup with the current north winds would be in that dry creek with a slightly inclined shot at about 13-15 yards. I feel that unless I have my longbow in hand...they get a pass and they did. Absolutely beautiful critters.

Dang. Can you shoot down? Shoot down or up. My first shot opportunities were well angled downwards...downhill.

Shooting off a ladder or out of the tree I could. But up has safety implications. Even at the archery range.

                    Thanks, Reb.

Went ahead and shot, standing on a chair; short-hopped it in low, about 3-5/8". Scared him!

Know your target and what lies beyond.
