Buck killed on my land today... biggest to date!

My only hunting time was spent at Richland WMA on a week long draw hunt. I took a solid buck and have been happy to have some venison in the freezer. Between travel for work, building a house, selling a house and a new baby on the way, I just can’t find much time. I’m fine with that on a short term basis but at the same time, my cameras have been picking up several big deer this year in Fannin Co. They are never consistent and come in mostly at night, but they are there and apparently avoiding other hunters too.

A family friend went out today with the expectation of shooting a pig but had permission to take a legal buck if one came out. I only let a handful of people hunt and my Dad, him and I have hunted together on various leases, trips and now my land since I was 15.

    Tonight I get this pic...

This is the biggest deer we’ve taken off the place since I purchased it in 2009 and buck number 5 in 10 years. I don’t have the measurements yet but he is wide. We have pictures of this deer since October but he finally slipped up.

It’s weird how when you own a place you feel every deer is “yours” in a way. We’ve passed quite a few young bucks and our minimum is 4.5 years or the biggest you’ve ever shot. This buck met both criteria!

I let friends hunt my place but don't hunt it myself. For some reason I just don't want to shoot my own deer but don't mind letting friends hunt them.

Fannin co has some big ones hiding along the red river tributaries. Very nice buck. Congrats to your friend, and to you for managing your place well.
