I had a 4 disc laminectomy when I was young( 32 )went back to work light duty as a pipe fitter in 2 weeks, lost a lot of flexibility but was alot better until I turned 50 then had a 5 disc fusion (2years ago) it still hurts but I can do almost anything I want. It sucks for a while but when you look back you’ll be surprised how welll you recover
