    Orthopedic surgeon recommendation

I know there has been a few of you guys who have had shoulder surgery fairly recently. I’m looking for someone in the N.Houston or College Station area.

I hurt my shoulder years ago playing baseball and it has progressively gotten worse... to the point now where it is nearly unbearable. I went last fall and got an MRI with contrast and it was determined that I had a torn labrum.

For those of you that have had this operation, what was your recovery time ? I work in a steel mill and constantly use arms / shoulders so there won’t really be any light duty until I’m fully healed.

I’ve met with Dr. Brian Cheminti in the Woodlands and so far I plan on using him. Any tips or recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Look up Dr. Gregory Harvey. He did my wrist surgery in Kingwood and I think has a office in the Woodlands I think.

Dr. Ronald Buczek did my finger surgery and is a good surgeon. He is also in the Woodlands.

It's slow and frustrating and slow and frustrating and repeat...

I'm post op day 12 right now from rotator cuff debridement, subacromial decompression, and biceps tenodesis (they cut and reattached it in a different place). I had a berve block so the day of surgery was fine up until about 10pm. Then the first night was bad, second day was bad but nothing I couldnt handle with the help of a little percocet! Then things got a little better every day. Started PT on day 6 and have been feeling really good until yesterday when i started hurting pretty good after PT, which should NOT happen because I am restricted to just range of motions so no lifting or pulling until 6 weeks post op. Fingers crossed something isn't damaged.

I'm a nurse and have to be able to do cpr and lift up to 30-50 pounds so I'm told 3-4 months before I am back to full duty at work.

Have i mentioned how frustrating this is?

And whoever you use, make sure it is someone who specializes in shoulders. Shoulders are the most complicated joint in the body.

Dr Illahi in the med center. 713 610-4288. He is one of the best on shoulder, least recovery time and has don reverse shoulder replacements (for those where everything is gone to far, uses a cadaver parts to reconstruct, was amazing on my mom)

This guy is good, but even better and in the same group is Dr. David Lionberger. They are both nationally know for their shoulder expertise with the edge given to Lionberger... Dr. Illahi did my knee several years ago. Dr. Lionberger did my shoulder, but it was a minor tear that didn't require surgery and he fixed me when others wanted to slice n dice. My wife worked with these guys in surgery for years and they are who we send friends/family to that have orthopedic needs. Fondren Orthopedic Group... THE best in the business.

I have used the Fondren Group for a knee replacement and shoulder replacement. Nothing but good things to say about them.

I've seen Dr. Veazey in College Station. He was real nice, Father in law saw him too. I only had a minor wrist surgery.

I had the same surgery many years ago. Commit 100% to your PT would be my advice.

I've heard awesome things about Dr. Smith at Tomball Orthopedic. I actually have an appointment tomorrow with one of his fellow doctors for a knee issue.

There is good reason why all the professional sports teams in our area use Fondren Orthopedic Group... and it doesn't cost any more to see the best as it does to see the one man shows in the small outlying facilities... Before they formed their own group they were all at Methodist Downtown. They now even have their own dedicated orthopedic hospital...

Dr Brown at Texas Orthopedic did mine. There are 25 orthopedic surgeons there and only 3 that do shoulders. Finding a good mechanic is priority 1.

I had torn 3 rotator cuff tendons and had a ripped peck muscle. It was jacked up and I didn't even start rehab for a month. Dr said this couldn't have gone any better considering how jacked it was, if you screw this up I will kill you.

Make a few slings out of old t-shirts to wear in the shower. Youtube has videos on how to make them if you don't know how.

Get a recliner to sleep in. Dr demanded I get one as well as friends who had the same surgery.

Be prepared to go crazy a few times out of complete boredom if your a active person.

Watch what you eat. You can put on a gut very easily by laying around all day.

Slow down when you have to drive. You won't realize how much you use both arms driving until you only have use of one.
