What's the best MRE out there as far as taste, variety and shelf life?

cheese burger, or the ribs. they have changed since 2005, the new variety is amazing compared to what they were. They still smell the same though.

LRRP rations we got in Vietnam were pretty dang good as compared to C rations.

Pork and beans were the best and spaghetti and meatballs a close second and top that off with a pound cake. Then have a smoke with those dried out cigarettes that came with them.

Not them ready made Kent cigs. We took all the tobacco out of them and filled em with the good stuff. At least that's the way it was done in 1968. So they tell me

Yeah I’m trying to remember but I was thinking there were Chesterfields, Lucky Strikes, Marlboro and Kools but memories ain’t that sharp anymore.

Btw, just so we don’t get chastised for derailment of this thread... all MRE’s are better than any C-rats we had back in the day.

They weren't that bad. Some were good some weren't. The chili mac or the ham slice were good. The pork patty was terrible. Spaghetti wasn't bad but the little bit of tabasco that came in it made it pretty good.

Oh and I loved the dehydrated peaches.

Another vote for Chili Mac in Mountain House. I also like the chicken and rice and teriyaki. I can roll with those 3 and be happy. I like to add a little olive oil and tobasco as long as I can find the small packets.

i can get some at the commisary on base here at lackland, the case is like 67 bucks if i remember right, singles are 7.

I have two cases here I take with me if I go anywhere I doubt I would actually eat them I started eating them in 09 and just stopped this past June

My all time favorite is chilli Mac With the Bacon Cheese but a close second was the beef enchilada if you could trade the Reese’s pieces and Get Jalapeño cheese superb dining

I went to REI and picked up some of the Peak Refuel. A breakfast one and 2 lunch/dinner type(beef stroganoff and chicken & rice). Chicken & rice was pretty good. Beef stroganoff tasted good but needed more water as the beef didnt get quite rehydrated.

Think they were 14 or 15. I would shop online.. seen them to 10 to 11 other places.

It was definitely was not the dehydrated pork patty. I liked the ham loaf and the tuna loaf.

Chili Mac with the heated up cheese on top and the little bottle of hot sauce poured on top. Best ever. On and top it off with the brownie. Oh and beware, you will be plugged for about 2-3 days haha.

There was a tuna and noodles MRE that was edible when you put the Tabasco in it. That was in the late ‘80s.

I remember once a few years back we were heading to the gas chamber and they issued MRE's for breakfast...I told those FNG's to not eat them....but they didn't listen...

I'm the minority, but even after living on them for a month, any of the MRE's are doable. I like the pasta's/stews better than the formed meat patties.

I like the Mountain House chicken and rice, Ramen Noodles are good too with a little avocado oil added.

They have got MRE's for sale by the pallet full on gov deals. You can get a 5k hummvee there while you are at it.
