    Log Splitters??

So I have a 3 point log splitter. I’m gonna convert it over on a trailer where I can pull it around with the 4 wheeler. I’m not sure how big a ram is on it.
What I’m wondering is what size of motor I need to install on it. I found a Honda 160 cc I can get pretty cheap but thinking I might need something a little bigger.
What’s the GS brain trust say???

      It’s 28 x 4. Guessing it’s around 20 to 25 tons.

This was gonna be my next move. Go by TSC, Lowes and Home Depot and see what size motors are on them. I have looked at most about a month ago, but can’t remember what motor is on them.
          Thanks!!

For that size log splitter, you’ll want at least a 5 HP

here is some data for common 22 ton units. 5hp is maybe a little small which might limit what you can split or how fast you can work.
              for 22-TON units

              GX200 Kit: GX200 is a 196cc honda engine
              A: 6.5HP/8gpm/3500psi

              1. GX 200 ENGINE (6.5 HP) 2. APHL8 (TWO-STAGE PUMP)
              3. 3030 BRACKET (ENGINGE TO PUMP BRACKET) 4. L095C (3/4" COUPLER TO ENGINE)
              5. L090B (1/2" COUPLER FOR PUMP) 6. SP1 (SOLID SPIDER FOR COUPLERS)
              7. HCV-LSS 1X21 (LOG SPLITTER CONTROL VALVE) 8. WLS4X24 (4" BORE X 24" STROKE CYLINDER)

              GX200 Kit:
              B: 6.5HP/11gpm/3500psi

              1. GX200 ENGINE (6.5 HP) 2. APHL11 (TWO-STAGE PUMP)
              3. 3030 BRACKET (ENGINE TO PUMP BRACKET) 4. L095C (3/4” COUPLER FOR ENGINE)
              5. L090B (1/2” COUPLER FOR PUMP) 6. SP1 (SOLID SPIDER FOR COUPLERS)
              7. HCV-LSS 1X21 (LOG SPLITTER CONTROL VAVLE) 8. WLS4X24 (4” BORE X 24” STROKE CYLINDER)

              LOGSPLITTER CYCLE TIMES:

The 6.5HP/8gpm/3500psi combination A should result in the following cycle times.

10 sec to extend the cylinder
7.5 sec to retract the cylinder

The 6.5HP/11gpm/3500psi combination B should result in the following cycle times.

7 sec to extend the cylinder
5.5 sec to retract the cylinder
