Anything helps especially with this Spring/Summer range conditions. Just glad we finally got some rain!
When you really know a place through monitoring or surveys it really sinks in on how much a drought really takes control. We supplement feed what we can with higher feed cost but Mother Nature is in total control.

Well, Safari Studio called yesterday with the news Pitchfork was done and ready for pick up.

Here’s a few pics for now from the taxidermy shop yesterday. Very happy to get this guy back.

I’ll post more pics later on.

That's one helluva deer!

Heading up this weekend for some last minute tasks. One of the members on our lease is getting married opening day of bow season so none of us will be there until the 2nd weekend

Cameras showing they've slowed down on the feed - was told there's a bumper crop of acorns this year so that would explain the corn piling up under the feeders - the raccoons sure aren't mad about that though

That is a beautiful buck and just about perfect in my estimation. Can't wait to see what you lay down opening weekend this year.

We feed year round. A variety between Palmer, purina and a local central Texas mix. I just fed some DD and it smelled and looked just like antlermax. I’ve noticed they hit it and the alfalfa pretty hard this past month and the corn was piling up.

We have noticed the same. Corn was piling up at most of my feeders and the deer have stopped eating protein. There has been a significant decline in pics on my Coverts.

I watched a video on a channel I watch on YouTube called Growing Deer, they did an episode explaining acorns. They said drought has little effect on acorn production. It actually has to do with what happens in the previous spring when the oaks have the “oak flower”. And some species of oaks only produce acorns every other yr. It was a good video. Also stated if you pay attention to your trees you can start to schedule which trees will be big producers for the upcoming season.

Same.....I have a feeling I will be cleaning out the trays and post spinner hopper on my ASF protein feeders and putting it back in the main hopper this weekend.

got into the high 50s this morning. Cell cams show that the bachelor groups made an appearance to get some candy. Bodies are very healthy. Hoping the big boys start showing their face in the next couple weeks. Racks are very mediocre thus far.

It has a hog trap gate on it that I left open to see if they would come in. Last time I left it open we got zero hog pics. I guess they need the corn right now.

We are 3 miles north of 190 on 2084. Had pigs show up for the first time this summer. No bueno......

Dang Texan16, didn't know y'all had seen some other than that one black boar that hung around all spring.

We were out this weekend. Mesquites are green and some of the grass is up tall, but pretty much everything else in our area is dry.

Man, we had a sow and 6 piglets show up middle of July. Started showing up on cameras pretty regular. Jimmy sent us a picture Sunday evening of a dead sow on the road right in front of Donnie's place so at least one of them is gone. Need to work on the rest of them.......

We have a group of 5 on ours on Toenail. Landowner has had the place almost 30 years and last year was the first sighting. Already killed 3 out of the 5. Suckers are gonna have some busted up rooters rooting around on our rocky place if they take off...

Personally I wouldn't mind the extra targets but I like my calm deer.
