Ball joints aren't that hard to replace. Watch a couple YouTube videos and get a loaner tool from your local parts store.

Those are not the most fun in the world to do, but also not the hardest. It's going to take a BFH and someone who really knows how to use it, those things are probably going to be in there pretty good. Then a ball joint press. Then an alignment afterwards.

That’s about what I was quoted for my 2005 F150 from a highly rated shop has done work for me that I couldn’t do myself. They have been very reasonably priced, IMO.

I’ve been watching videos and checking out Rockauto for parts.

I’ll do it myself when the temperature starts to drop. Figure I’ll save 12-13 hundred dollars. I’ll invest a Saturday to save that much money. Plus, I like learning new skills.

Since I’ll have it all apart, I’ll replace the struts at the same time. 2005 with 104,000 miles.

But, to answer your question, I think it may be difficult to find a reputable shop that will do it for significantly less.

Seriously, if you do, let me know, I’ll let them do it for me.

If you buy your parts from Oriellys they usually have a tool loaner program. I’m not sure on that truck, but you may need a ball joint press. I would only buy their best line like Moog or another big name part.

Our local Oreilleys will loan a tool even if you did not buy from them. Got a pulley puller recently to pull a stuck prop. No questions were asked.

Loaner tool and a good impact wrench. About three hours for the first side and about an hour for the second. I bought the tool and it has paid for itself several times over.
