    Snake Skin Limbs

On bow limbs do you need to remove the scales on the snake before tanning or are the scales left on?

Call Bob Morrison ( bow maker) he's the absolute best I've seen. But if its a rattle snake I believe you use tape to remove a " scale" off of them first.

You don't want to use a tanned skin. Just fleshed real well, and dried.

Yes, remove the scales before, and after drying the skin.
Duct tape works real good for removing the scales.

Like said above, you don’t use tanned skins for bow limbs.

Only use air dried skins. You take the scales off after you've glued the skins onto the limbs.

Yup! Flesh, dry, glue on with Tite Bond and let dry for a few days. Ductape will pull the scales off. Might take a few tries to get em all. After that I spray with a couple of light coats of satin polyurethane and let dry. The poly will waterproof the skin.
