I estimate the buck to score approximately 160 as I did not have a tape. Also guessing 5.5" bases and he carried the mass all the way out. Also estimating 24" main beams.
A few weeks ago I posted that I had seen a buck with a huge frame for Menard County on a ranch that I oversee. This buck was killed about 200 yards from where I had jumped him and looks like the same deer. This is a low fenced ranch and there is no aggressive management or feeding program. I think that this is an indication of how good our winter and spring were this year. While I did not open his mouth, estimating the buck at 5 years,
Adios,
Gary

Any word on pics of this dude? Itís my first year in the area so would just like to see what could be out there.

Tried to download to my album but I am guessing too much memory. I will post on my facebook page. I ended up rough scoring the buck at about 150 as an eight point. I did not score the trash as I didn't have a tape.
Adios,
Gary

P. S. If someone wants me to text them a couple of photos I will be glad to do so.

Thanks, Partner!
I did not set up the shots to flatter the buck as we just recovered him. Kurt is a big fellow and dwarfs the buck somewhat. I found that our neighbor to the south has been feeding cottonseed free choice and I am sure that this has a lot to do with the heavy antlers and buck's body weight.
Adios,
Gary

Been hunting since Friday afternoon.
Been skunked every morning even when sitting until 9:30-10.

The deer aren't coming until about 6:15 at night.

It's hot af!!! Not sure if I'm evening going to test this evening out due to it being almost 100 degrees.

Got a doe this morning and got some work done in camp this evening. Deer movement seems to be picking up with the cooler temps.

It was as low as 28 yesterday morning and misting rain that turned to snow around noon. Warmed up to 34 for the high yesterday. Today started out at 32 and warming up to about 53 with the sun burning through early clouds. Deer have really been moving the last three days as I am sure they are hungry, burning lots of calories to stay warm. I have not seen any true rutting activity around the house though expecting to see the bucks moving more as November is upon us. I feel that we will see some rutting activity with the opening of the regular season as it falls late this year.
Adios,
Gary

Thanks for the report Gary. How long do you think it was below freezing? One of our guys forgot to drain the water in his camper and he is worried about busting a pipe.

My nephew did some very poor planning...he's getting married this weekend. My bride and I are going to leave here on Thursday to help with the wedding and reception. I hope to be back here on Sunday.
Thanks and have a great and safe hunt!

Anyone seeing any pre-rut action around Menard, especially North and West of town? I didn’t see any interaction between bucks and does last weekend. I’m skipping this weekend as I’m sure everyone and their brother will be in a blind.

Thanks

Ojeda's is great food but no bar. Lazy Ladle has good food as well. Taco Express and Menard Donuts have breakfast food. Bowie's has fast food including Pizza.
Higginbotham's has most everything you will need. Compton's Warehouse and Kothmann Country Store will have feed, corn, etc. Droppin' Brass behind Comptons will have guns, ammo and some optics. Burnham Brothers will have camo clothes, some ammo and game calls and scents as well as free advice.
I have not seen any rutting activity other than a couple of yearling bucks pushing each other around. I think that we will see more activity next week as this would be more normal.
Hunters Blowout is this Saturday but are limited to 200 attendees and all tickets are sold.
As far as a local bar, I recommend the Menard Country Club but you will need to go with a member. Many of the local ranchers are members and could possibly get you in. I am a member and will be glad to take you if I am around. If you attend, this is an excellent opportunity to meet some of the local folks and catch up on the local gossip.
Adios,
Gary

Thank you sir!
At Lazy Ladle right now.
Going to get alfalfa after.

As far as activity for me this morning... I saw 1 buck! Camera shows them to constantly show up around 5-5:30 in the evening. So I've got my Hope's up for this evening.

32 shots rang out this morning.
I saw 3 does and that's it.

Since Thursday I haven't had much activity at my stand. Not sure what's going on. Had them everyday with the camera.

Any luck for y'all??

I heard about 15 shots this morning but same for me. Only 2 deer yesterday evening and 1 doe this morning. Iíve had pretty consistent photos so who knows. Iím not far from a gravel County Road and there was a craptown of traffic yesterday evening so My guess is thatís what kept them away.

We have a high line crew on our lease, replacing the wooden poles with the metal ones and restringing the wires, supposed to be there till the 23rd. Will have to work around them when I head down next week.

I havenít heard a ton of shots but Iím pretty far off any roads. Iíll shot two good size boars with my rifle. We have killed two more pigs and a doe. One of the lease members stuck a great 10, but unfortunately does not appear to be a lethal hit. We are seeing a ton of deer.

Iím here till Monday afternoon so I have a few more sits.
