Default 2020 Coyote Kill Thread.

Since the new year started I guess I better get a new coyote kill thread up in case anybody has started killin 'em yet.

No dice today. Calling was pretty slow but I'm gonna get back after them this weekend. Good luck everyone.

So happy to hear I'm not the only one using the APR 6.5 PRC to whack coyotes! I almost felt bad using that much gun. I will be calling in the morning, so I'm hoping to add to the total. Depending on how things work out with the APR build this year, I may get Robert to build me an APR in 223, just to have something that sexy and lightweight to take calling.

Saw a group of about 20 pronghorn running today. Got to looking and there was a coyote at the front of the herd. He looked pretty tired so I think he'd been running for a while. I don't know if they got him or not or I'd add him for them.

A 243 with 87gr v-max loads are devastating on yotes. Just foot for thought.

LO called me and asked if I was at the lease house. I said yessir. He said you mind going to shoot those two coyotes in the wheat field. Threw on the crocs and grabbed a gun and had one down in about 30 seconds. Hit the second in the leg and he ran off.

This one isn't quite as graphic as the cranial explosion above.^^

#11 was denied entry to my property this morning via snare. You cant just dig under the fence, it's not allowed.

.30 cal air rifle and a 44.75 grain pellet to the noggin from about 25 yards. He didn't even twitch. Pellet was under the skin behind the jaw.

Not sure. I went out and found where it had crawled around, trying to get up. Most have died in place but I've had a couple crawl off and die away from where it was hit. I haven't seen any buzzards over my property, so I assume it crawled off. I've seen a big boar pig (on camera) for several months randomly passing through my place as well as a good sized bobcat. I wouldn't put it past the pig, but I doubt a bobcat would go after a yote.

I don't want to go with a larger caliber as I only have 4 acres and neighbors all around.

A hog may have moved it/ate it. I'm sure they would they eat everything else. A .22lr will kill one if you hit it just right. They're tough animals but if you get one in the brain, throat or lungs they're done for.

I remember when my brother was about 13 or 14 he shot a coyote with a Remington pump action .22 at around 100 yards. He hit it in the lung and it did the death run and piled up. It's all about where you put that bullet.

Shot one at 15 steps this evening. He ran in and bit the call and stood there looking down at it. He couldn't figure out what that plastic contraption was. But I didn't give him very much time to think about it either. He tilted his head to the side in confusion just as a Hornady 52 grain BTHP was gaining speed.

31, killed 3 in the snow wednesday afternoon. Wish I could have called that night we would have hammered them. Called up 4 in 5 stands and seen 2 more out messing around just driving between stands. That snow hunting sure is fun though. Almost made me jealous of you folks up north that get to hunt in it all the time.

It's sure easy to see them coming in over snow. It's a good time to call them over open ground they won't cross in daylight. It's kind of funny you hardly ever see them on plowed up ground up here but once snow covers it they'll go across it like they would any other field. Right after or right before a snow storm is my favorite time to go callin.

Any kind of bad weather though really. A few years ago my brother and I called in 12 in one day right before a bad ice storm.

Got my furthest kill on a coyote towards the start of the year. I was getting ready to target shoot at 600 yards and he ran out in front of the target at 542 yards. Already had a wind reading, range finder was already out of my pack, gun was setup in the tripod. It was the worst possible time for that coyote to run out at that distance . Hit far back but buzzards helped me find him the next day.
