Wow Ken said some very interesting things and I'd say he is spot on.
For those of us who think a differently, the weaker spine in addition to everything Ken said, is much less efficient at flying. It will expend most energy maintaining flight and not at impact.
You can reduce weight or shorten a weak spined arrow to make it act like a stiffer spine, but there are limits and it will still not be as efficient as a properly spined arrow.
