Default Brisket - PSA

I overheard the HEB meat market guy saying they will not have any brisket at any location for a while. He was acting like it may be months before they stock them again.

HEB also had just put up limit signs on all meats.

Maybe this is old news but it caught me off guard.

I don't buy brisket but maybe once every 2 years.

Do you not want to be informed if HEB will stop carrying brisket?

I went to HEB Sunday with the intent of getting some pork butts to smoke but they were out. They barely had any ribs either and only 3 briskets, all prime. I grabbed one.

I went back yesterday for a couple of quick things and there were no briskets but they were loaded with pork butts so I grabbed one.

Guess I’ll be bbqing for Mothers Day.

Albertsons was limiting the steaks and ribs to 1 package but they were on sale. Hopefully limiting the amounts will prevent the panic hoarding rush, if not then lots of free fish in my future.....

LOL ok.. I'd assume if HEB is out of brisket then other stores will be also.

I'm leaving. I'm going to go panic buy some Bar-S hot dogs for my daughters graduation party.

It was insane. Had I seen the sheet of paper laying inside I wouldn’t have bought anything. One chicken baked potatoe, one sausage plate, and one beef plate was $40.00 and change. Wait, had a large ice tea as well. Said they were running out of sausage as well. Been trying to help the local places out but if they can’t get meat then their going done as well and the cycle starts over. The ripple effect is hail.

This is tough. My daughter-in-law's parents own a couple of restaurants in East Texas and are struggling to hold it together with curbside and take-out. They were told yesterday by their supplier to expect shortages and significantly higher prices on all meat.

Theirs is fantastic. When I go to deer camp in Oklahoma I have to take a bunch for "gifts" to guys that let me duck and goose hunt their places. We grill thick slabs and eat it like a hamburger. They have some not theirs but I only get theirs. Supposedly a place in Lindsay makes good bologna too but haven't had it.

If you know how to process your own meat, now is a great time to purchase a cow or pig straight from the rancher. Cut out the middle man. There’s not a shortage of animals, just a shortage of packing plants in business right now.

This will be devastating to all restaurants. Even if they get meat who’s gonna be able to pay a premium price for it.

That is not funny, I went to Lowe's to buy a small chest freezer 2 weeks ago and they said they not only had none, but I couldn't order one because the manufacturers weren't able to keep up with demand world wide.
When I can not buy something that they make a living selling something is wrong, very wrong. I noticed they had plenty of paint, maybe we should start a fake paint shortage so we can get our freezers and beef back up and going.

Meat is not about to be scarce unless there is panic buying much like toilet paper.

Yes it is tight as food service comes back into the supply chain and while plants are cleaning, but that is a very short term issue.

If the HEB guy said it will be months....he's an idiot.

Please do not contribute to the panic, news media is enough.

Went the same time RD did and was told the same thing. Couldn’t give me a shipping date. I figured after 45 days of this shat folks would have calmed down. I’m serious about all this folks. My sister n law raises black baldies and I could buy one but can’t get a date on a freezer. Once again the ripple effects of this are just starting to hit the shore.

That’s what I’ve been saying hellbender. I have meat or can get it. We left our freezer in Colorado thinking we’d buy another after we purchased another home down here. Waited Were 45 days into this shat so I’m thinking that the panic is coming to an end, all is good, I’ll go grab a freezer for us. Nope. Ain’t gonna happen. You can order one but they can’t give you a shipping date. Crazy

How can anyone not like bologna? The lunch meat kind is good.

If the country is starting to open back up why would meat plants be or stay closed?

Must have been bad bologna, the Fischers bologna is excellent doesn't leave nasty fatty film in mouth but then again if you don't like bologna then none is gonna be very good

That will work for a pig, but pretty much everyone I have talked to says pasture beef is terrible. I have thought about that myself, but by the time I fed it out this would ( should ) be over.

As soon as they start restricting, panic buying will commence and plants arenít open to continue the supply chain. I read 22 meat packing plants are currently closed.

Theory is that plants are shutting down/low production because of the virus. Sounds like reality is that people dont want to go back to work when plants reopened because they make more on unemployment....
