Default Buck hit...canít find him...ug

Had a nice 8pt come right up to my corn after a bunch of hogs cleared out....he was broad side at 28 yards....smacked him. He mule kicked...and ran off...i heard what sounded like him running into the property line fence...thinking he might have just gone down right there....all i have found is my bloody arrow....the rain and mist has made it tough....

Thinking about getting some dogs...never used them before....anyone know of a good contact in Anderson County? Iím gunna be sick....

Wish I was already at my place in Centerville, I'd bring my dog for you. But stuck in downtown Houston for now. How bad is the rain/drizzle.

Do you have permission to track across the property line?

Try some of the numbers on the stickied thread, we called a couple opening weekend but they were already busy elsewhere. Should be free today being Friday. They all answered or called back.

We are in the Cayuga area.

My experience with a "mule kick" means a hit too far back. Could be liver but maybe gutshot. Might give that guy plenty of time.

Call Dustin. He is a stand up guy with some awesome dogs. If he is down, they will find him. He helped me out big time last year on our place on the Houston/Anderson County line and has a great success rate. I don't recommend people or products often but I can vouch for Dustin.

...Really hope you find him if you decide not to call for a dog. When I shot my big buck at 7:26pm Tuesday evening, I gave him an hour before beginning to track. It took me until 10:30pm to find him with very little blood and no arrow. I was about to give up and wait until morning and call Dustin but miraculously found him after looking one more time.

FWIW, I was gifted one of the thermal trackers last year. I haven't needed it, but I did try it out on a deer that was recovered just to see if it worked. The blood cooled off too quickly to show up, but it did pick up the body pretty good. I can definitely see where they will help with recovery, especially in the dark. Range was pretty good, over 30 yds away

Helped recover one last night that did the mule kick. As said above the hit was a bit far back and a little high. Sparce blood, but we found him within about 200 yards. Liver with most the blood staying in the cavity. Best of luck!

Couldn't get a dog to come out? Walking around in the area too much will lower chances of a dog finding him.

First, thanks for all the ideas, thoughts and recommendations. I know i’ve already said that, but you guys are appreciated. I did try again, no luck. Don’t want to be out there much more, like one of you said, if I do get a dog, it won’t help matters me walking all over the place.

No tanks...but there is a creek.

So, I just got off the phone with Dustin...he referred me to a Wade Anders...he put my anxiety at a bit of ease saying the rain doesn’t mess with the trail for these dogs. I guess Wade has a Rhodesian Ridgeback who’s pretty special. So there’s still a chance. FYI, $100 to try...and if recovered, it’s another $200. If recovered, this will be the most expensive hunt i’ve gone on, cuz he’s going on the wall too. Ha.
