Awesome job for the chew family. I think I am getting convinced to go out there with you next year. When things slow down a bit we can get together and shoot some more.

Perfect morning in the Sam. Had a deer come in at 6:30 and it looked like a buck. Still too dark to see and it was only 9 yds from my tree! Prolly a giant I’ll never see again. Gonna sit most of the day. We’ll see what happens.

Anyone hear dogs in the SHNF woods during their hunts near Lake Conroe? Last few hunts have heard dogs, sound like they are chasing game. The dogs seem to be moving mostly in the morning. Spoke to another hunter who said a pit bull came up on him fast in the woods while he was going to his spot. He noted he had added some scent to the bottom of his boots.

Lol that is Damian in the last pic!

He packed the deer out of the woods for me because my feet still aren't well enough to handle 60 pounds on my back.

Congrats Tod on the spike. They eat just fine. I don't know of any cajun that has a good recipe for antler gumbo. Hope you can soon pack your own deer out because the GPS tracker I put on Damian is giving up your spot. JK

I plan on being out there this weekend. Good luck guys.

Sounds like me and a friend are planning our first trip down to the Sam for Dec 17-19. Probably going to stay at the equestrian camp as highly recommended from y'all. Still not much of an idea on what to expect down there. Planned for weekdays so that hopefully it won't be as crowded as weekends and we have less of a chance in bothering others. Looking forward to learning a new area and trying to figure out this place. Even if this trip ends up as a 3 day scouting trip at least I know where I don't want to be for the next trip. LOL Just have to pick a spot and start scouting. Learning new areas is always one of my favorite things to do. Maybe I will see some of y'all at camp.

Not yet! Still chasing those big bucks i been putting extra hours i have seen a couple that might have been barely legal but didn't wanted to risk it. I got two more weeks to make it happen.

Congrats y'all
Are you using game bags? If so which ones do you like and any special process besides wuartering bagging and hauling butt to get them on ice? I have an old came cart but I also have a frame backpack and figured it would be more convenient. I've never not quartered a deer and dropped it straight on ice though so was wondering about handling correctly packing out. Especially early season

My buddy and I went out yesterday morning and he did not take long to use his doe tag. Less than 1 hour into the hunt he shoots this fat one.

Now if I can get a turn at a buck.

They should be moving. We have had deer in the pasture twice this week. Sherry is going to set up in the morning to see if she can get one.

Well guys I made it happen about noon and put this big doe in the dirt. Longggg day but unfortunately my season is probably over. At the very least I'm out until last week of rifle. Either way this is the doe. She and two other does snuck up behind me like ninjas but I got one while she was walking away. She bulldozed about 50 yards and piled up.
