Default Help Identify Old Rifle

The back story is that 40 years ago my Dad found a rifle and sword in a cave in Mexico. It was supposedly right across the border from Lajitas TX. My parents have passed away now and I would love to identify what gun it is and why it might have been stashed there.

Any help would be appreciated.

It's a Mauser of some ilk.

The sword I dont know, but similar to Mexican Officers model. Maybe ol Pancho Villa hid them in there.

No clue but interested in the answer. Collectors Firearms at Richmond and Hillcroft isn't too far from Seabrook, and they have a ton of knowledge spread around the store. One of the smiths was able to give me a lot of detail about an old 19th century rifle (particularly interesting was the area that it was likely made) that my grandfather had.

Lots of history in that area, the Mexican Revolution went on there from 1910 to the 20's. Those 2 items could probably tell a story.

I’m guessing you can’t see any markings on the rifle?

Looks like my Dad's .22 after he retrieved it from the house post Hurricane Katrina.

The house I grew up in was under water for days. If you were standing on the highest point of the roof, you still would have had water up to your waste.

But that doesn't look like a .22

I will post when I unravel this mystery. Looks like the rifle is a 1910 Mexican Mauser Carbine. Now Iím working on the sword.
