6.8spc in a TC Contender

My son has a TC Contender in 223. sweet little gun, but was thinking about something with a little more power. can get a 23" HB from E A Brown. Would that make him a good round and still not have much recoil? most of our shots are less than 100yds.

Right now, he is shooting the Hornady Full Boar 50gr GMX out of his 223. He will be 9 this yr and is pretty small for his age.

My 6.8 AR hardly kicks. I haven’t shot one in a single shot, but it’s a mild cartridge and will be fine

That barrel is a bit long for a 6.8... as it was specifically designed to shoot in a 16" barrel... but the caliber with the 110 or 115 grain bullets is very adequate on deer size animals... My ARP 6.8 AR is my go to gun for large animals now... Might even shoot a deer with it this year...

I have killed several hogs and deer with my 6.8 SPC shooting 85g Barnes TTSX and 110g Accubonds. Both worked great but I prefer the Accubond.

This is AR platform so recoil is of no concern, I expect it is still mild (243 or less) recoil in the single shot.

Nothing wrong with a 23" 6.8 for the contender. It will still shoot great with less recoil than a .243. You just don't gain much in velocity with barrels over 20". It will kill things no problem.
