How does the bronze get applied?

That's pretty dang good. What are the height and length dimensions of it?

It's a funky process. The clay gets a flexible, silicone mold of it, which usually destroys the clay upon removal. A special melted wax in then poured into the mold. Depending on complexity of the item, they might need to make the mold in "pieces". If so, they heat the wax parts and put them back together into the original piece. You can still make a few alterations to the wax if needed, but I'm not very good doing that. Once Wax is done, it's dipped in a slurry of basically plaster and silica. They let dry and make several layers of dipping and drying until they have a thick shell around the wax. It goes into a furnace at 2K degrees or something very hot which melts the wax out and hardens the shell into a ceramic shell.
The molten bronze (brass and tin) is then poured into the harden shell. After cooling, the shell is broken off and around the bronze. The raw bronze is a shiny nickel color. Next, they use a Dremel and grinding etc to clean up the bronze as they add ports into the piece to vent the air out to avoid voids in the bronze pour. These now bronze tubes have to be cut off and the metal shaped back to what was under the port before it was added. Lastly, there are several different chemicals that are applied to the raw bronze to give it the "color". I believe they can create around 10 colors, but tend to stay with the old school bronze color.

I never realized how complicated it was when I started and now understand why bronzes are so expensive This process produces ONE bronze. The mold is good for multiple pours but to make another bronze you start all over again at the Wax phase.
