bobcat skins on the sofa or on the wall look cool, are less expensive and almost always turn out right...

I have a few really bad mounts, hey it happens, especially when you go cheap or with an unknown guy. It can still be a conversation piece.

If you want to know if a taxi is any good, look at his cats and birds.

OP I don't know if it will make you feel better or worse but I did almost the same thing. Paid a guy $400 to do my bobcat mount out of his garage. After looking at some pictures online I got really nervous but he actually did a pretty good job IMO. I'll post a pic when I get home.

Summer coat cats always look weird to me. Dave Majors here in Houston did two for a guy here at work, one a summer coat and one winter. He told him to never bring in another summer cat. The difference between the two is unreal, summer one almost looks sick.

Actually not much, I did it. As far as your question on what makes them so hard, look at the other photos. The eyes and ears have got to be right! no, absolutely no room for error in that area!! Most people just don't pay attention to detail or use reference photos. Then of course they get tunnel vision and just focus on one thing. I take photos, come in and down load them to take a look, the camera don't lie. I have caught many mistakes of mine by doing that.

Thank you sir, he was my very first one. Had lots of photos ( reference ) and took several photos during the process to look at and see what I had did wrong. I have to give lots of credit to Joe Jasek aka: Buck wild for teaching me. Him, Chance Love and Allen Palermo are some of the best out there. I have learned a lot from all of them.

Bisch....out of the cats I've seen posted lately yours is pretty darn good. The eyes and ears are the hardest part. I wish I had a cat mount to post up....

I've heard cats are the hardest mammals to get right. I've had a few people come to me with them and I turned them down. I don't feel comfortable working on a customers piece when I don't have the knowledge or talent to do it and I'm not scared to tell someone that. I'd rather screw my own stuff up for awhile fine tuning my skills than someone wasting their money on something I can't do. I'm my own worst critic and I wouldn't feel right sending something out I wasn't happy with

I would not count it out just yet. If it is just in the beginning of the drying stage there is a lot of grooming and finishing left to do. I have only done a few cats so I am no expert but lets see what it looks once he is finished the grooming/finishing. I spend as much time on this as I do sewing one up haha

If it doesn't come back looking better, I know a guy that specializes in predators and his bob cat mounts are the best I've ever seen.

Now that I've seen the "worst of the worst" yours doesn't look that bad! Maybe if you try to point out one item that you want him to try and adjust he might re-look at everything. Say something along the lines of " WOW It looks great! Do you think you could level the ears out a bit?"
